    Fallout ( TV Show)

I played the first 2 ( i think?) Fallout games and highly enjoy the Show so far. Two episodes in.

Great All American sarcasm mixed with brutal post post Apokalypse.
Lots of easter eggs for the gamers.

The World in which it takes place is a bit removed from reality though and more a post Apokalypse of the ideas of the atomic future people had in the 1950s.

But that makes it charming in my opinion.

Full disclosure: I have never played the games so have no idea how true it is to the source material.

That said, I burned through all 8 eps this week and enjoyed it, even if it is highly derivative/a pastiche of every post-apocalyptic film, book, tv series ever.

I completed Fallout 4 and left no stone unturned.

I give the show a big thumbs up. Fucking hilarious that Nolan could deliver something this good off of a goofball video game but Amazon spent half a billion dollars on Tolkein rights and created a steaming pile of shit out of it. One can only wonder what could have been if Bezos had given the Tolkien project to someone who actually loved the material as much as Nolan loves Fallout.

Anyone who's never seen A Boy and His Dog should watch that if you want to see the biggest influence on the Fallout series.

Funny you mention this film. It sprung to my mind immediately during Episode 5…

    PS
If you have never read the novella by Harlan Ellison, I highly recommend it.

Yup, but the games are unapologetically so. The show is of course derivative of the Fallout series, which itself is inspired by their own previous creation, Wasteland. Interplay's post-apocalyptic RPG from '88. And THAT of course, the game's creators say, "drew artistic inspiration from 1950s literature and media emblematic of the Atomic Age as well as the films Mad Max and A Boy and His Dog" per the wiki.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm hearing nothing but great things so far! Color me surprised! I was kind of expecting it be yet another cash grab, taking advantage of a popular video game franchise, and completely botching it. Although I did enjoy the Last of Us on HBO, so kudos to those guys too for doing a surprisingly good job with translating the source material to a TV series.

I'm about halfway through episode 3. Never played the games, but I'm a sucker for anything post apocalypse. The multiple story lines in the first episode almost lost me but I get the need for a setup. I'll give it a 7 out of 10.

Played Fallout 3 and absolutely loved it to the point I played through twice (good and evil). Played some of Fallout 4 before my free time went to zero.

Now I'm two episodes in and I'm hooked. The answer to everything that is this post apocolptic horror show is, YES HOLY FUCK THEY WENT THERE. But somehow kept the goofy, everything will be ok 50's sickly sachrrine sweet vibe.

Yeah, this is not On the Beach or The Day After.

Not the end of the world, just the end of a civilization that wasn't really all that civilized. It's a civilization of capitalism run amok that wasn't worth saving.

Its the apocalypse, if it was done by Tex Avery and Chuck Jones. I wouldn't call it horror per se; its splatter. Pretty sure that The Ghoul is perked up with the maximum level of Bloody Mess.

Walter Goggins is killing it these days, guys in everything. I enjoyed it more than I expected to. Not a gamer.

Baby Billy steals EVERY scene he's in. 3rd season of Gemstones would have been much better if Baby Billy had become the main character.

Wow the setup for season 2 is absolutely perfect. Great series. And it fits perfectly into the existing game cosmos. Wow.
Definitely my TV Highlight for a while.

So what's the date we can officially discuss Details in this thread?

I'd say by this point we're probably good to discuss episodes 1 and 2.

Just finished 5 last night and I think I have an idea about vaults 31-33 based on previous game stories.
