Where to ride next week (Southern ID, UT, CO)

Waving the white flag and giving up on the ski season in N Idaho. Looking for places to put on my radar that are mud free and great riding with camping nearby. I am not against heading to Moab, Fruita, etal. But was hoping to have some ideas on up and comers. I have been hearing about Richfield, but not sure if it's still muddy/snowy? I've got a week to head south and explore. What say the collective?

Depending on the type of riding you seek, Missoula is surprisingly dry in the lower mountains. Plenty of xc trails to work on fitness.

I'd think the lower Richfield stuff is in play by now. that's where I'd probably go if I were you. Cedar City might be a good option as well.

Northern Front Range, CO (Golden / Boulder / Ft. Collins)? I'm serious... lots of trails are drying out right now, and I'd put our trails up against any of the destinations listed above unless you really want desert riding. If you're riding during the week, there's absolutely no one out there either.

I was just down in Cedar City and Hurricane last weekend. Pretty much good as it gets right now (The higher stuff in Cedar will still have some snow) .... I would post some pics but...

You could hit some stuff on Antelope Island and camp on the way down/up to break up the drive.

This is a pretty good recommendation... though the camping opp's kinda suck.

Just be *sure* not to be around on the weekend.

All good stuff, thanks all. Looks like we will be checking out Richfield. NOW! How about more good beta on camping along the way. I know each riding area has its own paid or dispersed sites, and that's all helpful if you have something to share. But also, how about breaking up the drive? For instance, Sfotex mentioned Antelope island (wouldn't have thought of that). Other ideas? Hot springs along I-15. Speaking of which, check this place out. https://www.maplegrovesprings.com/ Also: City of Rocks would be a good stopover, but kinda out of the way....

I’d imagine Pocatello has a days worth of dry trails by now but not sure. Lots of public land camping around there.

Based on the most recent SWE map for that region I’d seriously doubt anything up high is in play. Maybe some of the lower City Creek trails are getting there.

Yeah, trails forks has lots of reports for City Creek area. But that would be enough to break up a drive and stop and camp, right?

Huh, never heard of that place. South of there is Preston, you can do the Napoleon Dynamite location tour there, ha. Get the pamphlet at the Tourist Info building.

Bugs aren't bad yet on Antelope, so that's a good bike/camp option.

There is free public hot springs above Mystic Hot Springs in Richfield.

You will probably camp off the road that the RIchfield trails are on, but the gate was closed when we got there so we camped at Castle Rock Campground, and it was pretty damn sweet for a paid campground.

I don't have a ton of experience in Richfield so I could be wrong, but I don't think there is enough open to spend a week there right now.

For sure. Can confirm the lower City Creek trails are in from bike club FB page, usually referred to as the “lower bench.” Probably worth a pit stop, but I wouldn’t expect to get a full day of riding in without lapping. The more fun trails like Over the Top, Sterling Justice, and Gibson Jack take a bit longer. A bonus at this time of the year would be Grove to Black Cairn to Switchback but that’s a big maybe if it goes.

Quick update: Didn't get to hit City Creek, but they look legit. Good camping south of Pokey town right off I-15, Indian Rocks. Caught an Alta day with 7" whoop! Richfield is legit and has plenty of camping. Thanks for all the input!
