    QST Blank

I’m looking to add a fattie to the quiver, I get a killer deal on Sally stuff. Thoughts on the Blank? 5’9” 147lbs. What size am I?

There is a whole thread on the Blank with a ton of info, but for me as a 5'10ish 170 pound-ish Utah skier, I'm on the 186. I'm a beater and I ski more well spaced steep trees than wide open slopes and that length works well. I take it anytime there is more than a few inches of new snow.

Blank is an excellent ski. Had them and QST 98 in UT for a month and more often than not, I preferred being on the Blank, even on days when there was no fresh snow. As long as there's something to dig into (not ice), they rule. Even on groomers. I haven't been on a ski in years that I've had to think so little about. They just do what you want in most situations, which is what makes them an excellent ski, IMO.

I'm a fatty. I go from like 195-210 naked, and I'm 6-1. I have the 186 and 194. I've never felt the 186 was too short, which is probably why the 194s never get used (had them out on one thigh deep day at Crystal two winters ago). Based on the discrepancy between your height/weight and mine... I get the feeling you'd be fine on 178. That being said, however, I don't think you'd suffer on the 186. As I mentioned, it's just a very easy ski to ski. I suppose your final call will factor in how good of a skier you are, and where you want these to work. If you're banging through a lot of tight spots, I'd go shorter.

FWIW, I've got both mine mounted at +1cm, per the recommendation from Salomon team manager, and that seems like the sweet spot. Maybe on the 178 I'd scale back to +.5cm or just go on the line.

I tried the search engine and failed, I figured there had to be a thread for these.

Agree with bossass. You could go 178 or 186. I’m 5’ 8” and 200-lbs on the 186. It handles my weight fine and is crazy playful while not folding. Great all around soft snow ski.

Thanks for that link Bandit, I pulled the trigger on the 186 Blanks, 5’9” 147lbs. Mounted on the line. Got them out on a 15” day on Friday and couldn’t be happier. Even after it got chopped they still kicked ass. Now I want the QST 98 as an east coast DD. Also, Strive bindings are excellent, auto toe height on the GW versions is killer, I prefer alpine din soles on my boots and they tested perfectly with no fucking around with adjustments. Strive will be my go to clamp going forward. Salomon is killing it right now.
I really like how condensed their ski line is these days. Two thumbs up!
