RIP Skiing-in-Jackson (new 8/15 updates)
Gang, we recently learned tragic, terrible news that Stephen aka Skiing-in-Jackson was killed in Iowa on July 31st while riding his bike across the country (I believe he was on his way back home)
He's been a longtime forum member - quiet but one of the best. Many know him from solving their toughest boot issues through his bootshop in the basement of the HostelX. https://skidcouture.com/
He embodied such a good person (was active in the community, once ran for mayor of Jackson) Humble, giving, positive
Embodied the classic ski bum- skied everyday- and not just him but also his wife and 4 kids! I think they were homeschooled or at least a couple of them and part of their education was skiing and outdoor pursuits (his daughter hiked the AT alone at like age 17 or 18) badass awesome humble family
An awesome person that all can attest. Super, super loss and I can't imagine what his family is going through. they were an especially close family.

I have not seen much local coverage of this and have not seen a gofundme or anything yet. I only knew them through skiing and seeing them around town but will keep you all posted and other friends and JH folks pls keep us posted as he was beloved

Very, very sorry to hear this. I got to meet Stephen during BBI MT. We rode a lift together at Big Sky and he was really positive and personable and I have thought back on that conversation sometimes and wished I'd gotten to know him better. This really sucks. Vibes to his family. RIP skiing-in-jackson.

This one hurts. I am still rather stunned.
Stephen will be one of the rare Ski Bums that I never forget. He was relatively unique to the Village.
Committed to his family and the Life.
The ski bum gene pool just got shallower.
Rest in Peace, my Friend.

Here's Stephan calling his son from the top of Pucker

Stephan and his wife were frequently seen skiing around in retro ski clothes, just for the fun of it. In fact it seemed like they were always having fun

So horrible, thanks for sharing. Stephen was my bootfitter of choice. More than once he would drop everything to hook me up. I cant count how many times I made the trip from Salt Lake to Jackson just to have him tweak my boots.
RIP and prayers to his family.Samuel L. Jackson as Jules Winnfield: Oh, I'm sorry. Did I break your concentration?

What?!? No way! This is terrible. He was pretty awesome, especially on boots and VWs. I’ll really miss his virtual presence here. My sincere sympathies to his family and friends.
