Fatality at discovery

This was my wife’s cousins son, he had just turned 10. I loosely know the mom but didn’t know him. It just feels sad and weird and not sure how to support her or the immediate family.
Not sure if any mags know them but wanted to share here to maybe help with perspective or something.
This will change my feeling on skiing with my son but hopefully we can still have fun and be safe.

Horrible. Made worse obviously by the fact many of us have kids similar age and it makes it all too real. Just a few days ago was showing video of my kid tree skiing to my wife, she wasn’t into it.

take your cues / clues from your wife ;
Listen ! Patiently ! ( If something is unclear, try to Ask for clarification )
Be useful ( If there are household tasks ( /chores ) you wife likes you to do, don't wait to be asked )

I am so sorry that is so heartbreakingly sad.

When I was a racer kid, a kid a few years older than me went through a fence and hit a tree. He lived, but lost most of his sight and had some other long term effects. It was a moment that shocked me out of innocence in some ways. I'm sure this poor kid's death is having a similar effect on a lot of his little ripper buddies who had previously known a carefree existence skiing where the awareness of possibility of death while skiing was just a theoretical concept in the distant reaches of the back of their mind and now its a real thing that happened to their buddy.

Thats all i have to offer in terms of perspective. I know you want to have something to offer thefamily, you can make it clear you don't know what to offer but still, if they need anything..... But you can help your son of course, and maybe any other kids, although i'm not exactly sure how, empathy and awareness are always a key that seems to open the right doors during these times.

Just such a sad tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers to the family and all those affected in any way.

This. I love skiing with my boys more than almost anything. They're my world, too. It would crush me if anything happened to either of them.
