    Martha Stewart Yurt Living

i need your help mags. i'm taking stbmrstgapp on her first yurt trip this weekend, and this is as good a time as any to step up my game & leave her wanting more, just like my girl martha would.

so - help me do this up nicer than an alderson federal prison cell. what are the best meal ideas, must have yurt hacks (paper plates, lots of powerbanks, Bluetooth speaker, etc), yurt cocktails, bdsm play scenarios (bonus points if they involve me in martha stewart drag), and martha & snoop smoking shenanigans?

your input greatly appreciated, thanks all

All of your ideas are primo! The one big thing that hits me is the importance of keeping it simple. The simpler that it is, The less stressed out you'll be and able to enjoy the experience with The Missus.
My most enjoyable mixed company yurt trips were focused on good food and simple fun.

Do as much prep work at home for dinners and pre freeze and pack them in ziplocks. Mrs. B has been quite pleased with frozen chili or marinaded steaks. We also live a life that is much more boring than Martha Stewart bdsm so take that with a grain of salt.

Also if you are bringing eggs(not hers you sicko!) then precrack them into a water bottle.

And bring twice the amount of warm drink fixings as you think is necessary. I drink a helluva lot more tea and cocoa at a yurt/hut than at home.

Less is More: unplug and leave all batteries at home except avy beacon and inreach.

Bring a candle-powered fondue set for chocolate dipped fruit and naughtybits. Take turns trying to light the fondue candle with another lit one gripped in the orifice of your choice while dressed as Martha Stewart.

I'm a big fan of pre-made dinners that are vaacum sealed and frozen(enchiladas etc). Boil in bag on stove and hardly any dishes, unless doing dishes in Martha drag while she whips you is an option.

But the real question is whether the fartbag is making the trip?

where can i find some good boil in a bag recipes? enchiladas sound dope, would love to hear some other no/low mess options

I'll ditch all other electronics but I do like music, and since I'm not very musical a speaker is nice

These are all really good ideas, I may steal some. We were very proud of getting two Costco cartons of eggs to a 10th mtn hut with only one casualty, but the water bottle would have been so much easier.

If she likes cheese, one of my favorite ever purchases was a little candle operated raclette set, it also works on chill hikes if you want to have a fancy lunch https://a.co/d/eGeUMO6

A lot easier than cheese fondue (although I have done wilderness fondue on sea kayaking trips).

Also hot toddys and whiskey hot chocolate

Prepare as much as possible in advance. Weed infused olive oil and/or butter always goes a long way to prepare a first-class Snoop Dogg meal. I'm thinking weed infused mac n cheese, or a nice tenderloin doused in infused butter. I have great recipes for things like [weed infused] bananas foster, pesto, sweet potato skins, roasted veggies. I have recipes for all this curtesy of Bong Appetit. Pam makes amazing marinaded camping meals. Made in advance tikka Masala or other chicken curry dishes are easily packable and tasty.

Toss your i-phone in a solo cup to horn load it. That's my backpacking music rig.

I like vacuum packed marinated steak. You can pre-cook and vacuum pack potatoes, also. Use the leftover steak and leftover potatoes along with pre-scrambled eggs (in a Gatorade bottle) for breakfast. I've also made French toast with the scrambled egg mix (though I add some cream and cinnamon when I'm doing that). If you bring some sour dough for french toast, bring some brie and salami for a snack. Bacon reheats really well, just saying. Trail mix is my favorite snack in the woods. Salted/flavored nuts are good, too.

Hot chocolate is clutch. My drink of choice is good rum with a squeeze of lemon. Amazing hot or cold.

Have fun! My wife's idea of time in the back country is going out to the Ritz in a snowstorm.

Read the threads on taking kids skiing, it is about the same. Try to keep the adventure about a 5/10 and always have going back to the yurt/truck an option. What luxuries to take is probably a f(x) of the hike in. People don't just change on a hut trip. If partying is your thing, do that. If you are a curl up with a cup of tea and book person, their you have it.

Don't underestimate staying warm. Have a set of hut clothes that stay in your sleeping bag and never get sweaty. Its camping. Some people can sleep in the dirt indefinately, so people are always looking for a shower.

eggs in an old nalgene bottle for breakfast, crack at home, preseason and pre-whisk, then just a little shake in the AM and you have a scrambled egg dispenser. if you have a vac sealer, making a lasagna, enchiladas, any sort of pan dish like that, then portion/slice, freeze, vac seal portions, then you just boil in vacseal bags. You could also whip up some sort of curry dish, freeze in a nalgene or similar, slowly bring to temp in warm water then dump into pot on stove to warm through.
Uncle Ben's microwave rice packets are actually really good, plus a can of chicken, tortillas, avocado, seasonings, etc make for a super quick chicken and rice dish in a skillet.
Gastrognome brand backpacking meals are also really good.
We've also done full on thai curries/pad thai, fajitas, etc. If it's just you two, think lighter options as you'll want her experience on the way in to be lighter and easier while you shoulder the burden.

How long is the skin in to the yurt? That might influence choices. Also, do you have a vacuum sealer? That also impacts things.

That said, I agree with the "do as much ahead of time" advice. Even if you don't have a vacuum sealer and all you are doing is pre-chopping veggies and pre-marinating meat; saves on hut work, saves on garbage you carry out (eg veggie scraps). FYI, do not pre-chop onions unless you have a vacuum sealer or quadruple bag those, because they will make your bag stink otherwise.

A great stew or green chili vacuum sealed will be hearty, comforting, and super easy to "make" at a hut.

Gallon ziplocs or tupperwear work fine, vac seal not required. Also, I never freeze stuff in the winter.

One of my favorite go tos is a good hearty stew. I agree double bagged ziploc bags work great. I do like to freeze, even in the winter, eliminates the possibility of puncture.

Vacuum seal isn't necessary -- as in he shouldn't buy one if he doesn't have it -- but it is a nice thing to have and makes packing up leaky stuff safer. And yes, I am a freeze guy, not so much for food safety as it makes it easier to shove things into your pack without worrying about the double-bagged stew in there.

Pick up some Indian take out or dim sum items for easy meals. We freeze quite a bit of food for camping and glamping trips. Spaghetti is a fave as well as enchiladas. Reheat and good to go. Most of the yurts we stay in have a bbq with a side burner. Back up is bring a two burner stove.

Bluetooth speaker and a laptop with music and movies, cards, scrabble, other games. X-country skis or bikes depending on weather and location.

Solar-powered inflatable 'candle' for ambiance. Lightweight and easy to pack. Or get a few of the battery-powered tea light candles.

Some "fairy lights" will definitely create some ambiance.

Pre-roll some fat burritos w foil, freeze or chill. Reheat in the morning on the yurt wood stove, then haul em up the skintrack to yer picnic spot with OR Burrito Holster.
