Really active thread right now. Solid.

Committed to the Sweetgrass all morning and stuck a toad on a size 4 Orange Cat Puke. Really fun fight on a 5 wt.

Lovin' the feel of that rod.

Swimmy with an hudge brown, must be close to summer.

I'm going to be leaving town for a while, tomorrow, to live in the woods with a bunch of nonconformist freaks, then visit friends and family in Oregon, and preach the gospel to street people, before hitting my 40th HS reunion. I may also visit my buddy in WA who is living in a house with a 300 pound pig.

I won't be doing much fishing (maybe a day or two with Dad), so today I went out and fished a small nearby tributary creek I've never fished before. Upon arriving I discovered that I'd gone out without my license, so after cussing a bit, I drove home and got it, then returned to the hole I had been looking at, but sadly, there were two other guys there by then (about 50 minutes had passed). I drove up the road a mile or two to a FS parking area, and plunged into the bush.

Soon after getting through the tangle to the water, I found this logjam, and hooked two smallies, landing one. One took a tan/orange micro-chubby, the other a small black nymph.

I turned over some rocks after a while, and found these bugs, ISBDs sent me a fine, heavy headed stone that looked pretty close, and I strung a hare's ear off the back of it.

I was about to head down stream down a dry side channel, but first I snuck my rig through the shadow of this little grassy point, expecting to get snagged, the water didn't seem deep enough. But my bubble disappeared and alleluia, my day was made! ISBDs heavy headed stone ftw!

Downstream, after nearly getting swept away crossing the creek twice, I saw this drop-off into soft water. I cast over the current, did a big loopy mend, and bam! A healthy little cutthroat.

It was a good last day on the water before my journey, I caught three, and lost two, in three hours on the water (there was plenty of crashing through brush as well). Good luck, and tight lines folks!

Well our good luck dried up today as the bite pretty much turned off for us. Still seeing a few bugs scatted mid river but I think it is over and we are out of here tomorrow. Super fun couple of days though.

Home for a few days then moving camp for the next go-around.

Went to check out some skinny water. Wouldn't normally Hotspot but I think this was a pretty cool collaboration that benefits us regular joes. And it's a bit rough to get into and I've only seen one person in 5years. Also I didn't catch shit and something was breaking a fuckload of branches causing an early departure with the dogs.

New river, same game. Been up here a couple of times this week anticipating the arrival of the big bugs. Today I saw the first adult! Actually I saw caddis, pmd's, a golden stone, and a salmon fly. It is basically a bug buffet right now.

Dry fly fishing was a bit slow, nymphing was really good. Hoping that changes in the next few days as I'm back home for the evening but I've got the camper loaded and headed out tomorrow for a week or so.

Late June in SW Montana is hard to beat if you are trout fisherman.
