Seeing as the rivers are swollen and muddy, I took a run out to "big cutthroat creek" for the first time of the year. The water was higher than I'd ever seen, and the pools I usually ply with drys, were rapid torrents. I was unable to check one of the deep holes though, because as I walked the path toward it, I came upon a moose standing in the trail, and looking at me. I thought it better not to bother with the camera, choosing to back away slowly. It's the first time I've seen a moose in the wild.
I decided that with the fast water, and no action, that I'd switch to a heavy streamer on a sinking poly leader. This got me a feeble bite in one hole, but no results, however, at the deep hole I refer to as the "fish bowl" I got a hard strike, and using my lightning fast reflexes, managed to snag hook a portly 16" cutthroat. Yay for me!
I had no further luck, but the one fish was enough to make the trip worthwhile. The end.I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. -אלוהים אדירים

Didn't take any fish pics like usual but it was on like donkey Kong at the local for the big bugs. Got out Friday and today and enjoyed the great weather and lights out fishing. Had real good time watching guide boys have zero fucking river etiquette, fuck those guys who should be held to a higher standard. Got a bunch of attitude from homeboy after he drove 10mph the whole shuttle and asked him if he knew what a pullout was...don't even get me started on boat ramp etiquette.....
Anyways still great weekend on the water. I need to eat more gummies apparently.

2024 Fish Pic Thread
A few from this weekend. Local freestones are absolutely raging so found some summertime fishing on America’s favorite tailwater. Soo busy and no big bugs, don’t go there.

Jealous of everyone getting after it with success. The annual tarpon run was WINDY didn’t see a tarpon until the last morning before we were flying out, got one to eat and she promptly jumped me off. Still so much fun to be down there - even getting my ass handed to me. Local water is HIGH going to be a bit before we have decent fishing. Did manage to make a run over the the Henry’s Fork (along with everyone else in a hundred mile radius) and caught a few. I need to take more pictures.

I was focused on guiding my rod through the brush. The hole in the trail is new. I dropped down about five feet fast, hitting bottom before I knew what was happening. I believe all I said was, "that was lucky" because I could have been badly hurt and came away unscathed. A few minutes later when I stepped in the river and water poured in the rip below my knee that I hadn't noticed I felt much less lucky. Whatever. It's repairable. Good day. No injuries. I'll rethink my sunglasses choices when I'm scrambling around.

Yesterday I went out just to be out. We seem to be on the downhill side of full runoff, the weather remains warm and sunny, but the snow is gone from most nearby mountain tops, and the water is slowly subsiding. However, the water is still about two feet higher than is good for wading, and it is still pretty muddy. There were fish rising sporadically, but aside from a couple small rises, the only bite I got was when I stepped into the water after tying on a small streamer with a SJ worm trailer. I had just let it fall into the water as a stepped off the bank into the water, and was surprised to see my indicator sink, I didn't hook the fish.
Later on I picked up a hitch hiker, a sign of things to come.

Nice Swimmy! We are going n full blown runoff with the Southy running at 19,000 cfs this morning. Did a quick float yesterday to check out the river and managed to dredge up a few but it’s going to be a bit before we are looking at any dry fly action.
