Really!?! That's absurd. Plenty of fans have been banned from the ballpark for less. These clowns crossed several lines. They grabbed his arm, not just his glove.

Now I know why Myles Straw climbed that wall to try and fight the entire bleachers section.

We don’t know that they “had to” ask. There’s one unnamed source saying they did ask. They were escorted out yesterday, no?

This was egregious but reaching over and interfering is not uncommon. And while I used to think Phillies and Dodgers were the worst based on violence that took place in those stadiums it’s pretty clear to me now that the bucket of sports fans in general contain some pretty deplorable characters.

That someone would think Vinny the Yankee fan could do this but not Antonio the Mets fan from the same exact place is delusional.

This was egregious. Full stop. Don't fucking be an apologist because "reaching over and interfering is not uncommon". That's not what they did. And in some hypothetical world all fans are terrible even though we have this actual example and nothing similar (because again, reaching over and interfering is not similar to what these guys did). But sure, Mets fans are just as bad. Even though this didn't happen in Citi Field or Shea Stadium, nor can I recall anything similar happening there or anywhere, actually. And did happen yesterday, in Yankees stadium.

Nice work defending the Yankees. You know what the proper response would be? That those fans suck and should be banned and any team -- regardless of whether it is "my" team -- should not have to waste even a second debating the issue. I guarandamntee you I would say the same if it HAD happened in Citi Field and would have been pissed as hell if the Mets did not take immediate action. I sure as fuck wouldn't be in this thread defending the Mets, I'd be in here apologizing for them.

Also, what they did was so bad, why aren’t they banned across all major league stadiums? certainly the yanks could share their information to make sure they don’t fuck up a game in queens. That was some of the worst fan behavior i’ve ever seen, and i have seen a lot from working in yankee stadium for a year.

Two assholes. That’s it. I would think they could be charged with something. That’s up to NYC and Betts obviously. I agree they should get a nationwide MLB ban. All the generalized Yankees fan hate/slander is unjustified. There are assholes everywhere. well, these are much better takes then your first post in the thread about the incident. When you say "that's all I've said anywhere" it's not clear what you're referring to because there was nothing said by you in here; your only post about was apologist and whataboutism.

And I totally agree that these guys should be banned everywhere.

It's currently a "yankee fan" issue because I can only recall it happening once, by 2 yankee fans (fan interference happens but that is not what this was). And the team didn't seem to react swiftly (beyond kicking them out which was obvious); the fact that it took them until this afternoon to make a statement, that the MLBPA had time to ask MLB to have these fans banned (versus the banning happening so swiftly that nobody had to ask), is something. And the one bystander interviewed (articles have been updated so can't find her quote anymore) said these guys were "heroes", which I cannot imagine seeing this happen and thinking that. If they reached up and batted the ball away before it got to his glove, sure, but that ain't what they did.

So if you want to say that yankees fans generally don't deserve this, go ahead, but it's not a "brain dead take" to talk about this as a Yankees fan issue. Just like if we were talking about the beating of a Giants fan in the Dodgers parking lot, it would be ok to talk about that as a "Dodgers fan issue" and not act like every fan base everywhere should be indicted because of those violent assholes.

MLB Radio on Sirius said one of the guys from last night was a college friend of Gronk. So maybe not far off. Though why would a Sox fan want to do anything to Betts or help the Yankees in any way? More likely just a meathead U of A hanger-on.
