My rose colored glasses say that most pitchers seem to have a 2-3 year grace period after TJ. So they are totally fine.

sheffield is off the ballot. i don’t have any tears for him but he was easily a better player than some recent additions.

swap the la or ny years for a few in boston and he’d be in cooperstown. there’s some “named in mitchell report” kryptonite townies get plus the voters have never heard about park effects.

I'm happy for fans of these inductees, but man it seems like a real boring period for people getting into the hall. So many great players from that era that may never get in.

Sweet Lou Pinnella falling one short of the Hall seems wrong.

Smokin' Jim Leyland getting in does not.

I know that they’d never go a year without nobody but a few years off of voting to restock the candidates would make it more interesting

I’m already getting angry over next year because I guarantee we will get a dozen voters telling us that Ichiro doesn’t belong.

Is the PED era “lockout” just a ban/cloud on anyone from the 90s at this point?

I feel like there should be so many players from the Braves/Yankees/Indians from that decade that we just kind of skipped over cause the steroid era overlapped with these teams.

Speaking of PED’s, Barry Bonds. I was messing around on Baseball Reference and this 4 year stretch is so fucking absurd. I wish I could watch it again. As a Dodgers fan I hated him so I never appreciated the sheer greatness of it. It includes the top 2 obp in history and 4 of the top 11. The other 7 seasons belong to Ruth x3, Ted Williams x2, and 2 dudes that played in the 1800’s.

That should have its own wing in the PED era wing.

Anyone ever listen to Baseball is Dead podcast? If not, you should check it out. They have been doing a Mount Rushmore for every team over the past year, and a few weeks ago, they did Cleveland. Who you got up there Bmills?

They all had some combination of Thome, Lofton, Nap Lajoie, Larry Doby, Bob Feller and Lou Boudreau.

That’s a fun project, I’ll have to tune in.

Those are all names that should be in consideration, and Supermoon is right as well (PEDs be damned). But there’s a lot to pull from in over 100 years of club history, or even just the 90s alone (Manny hit 7th! on that 95 team)

But for me the Mt Rushmore is:

Bob Feller (the man played, went to war for 4 years in both theaters and kicked Axis ass and THEN came back to pick up his HoF career like it was nothing!)

Larry Doby (first black AL player and second black player overall, less than 3 months behind Robinson, and an incredible story and career)

Jim Thome (500 HR is a lot but he’s a genuinely great human being)

    and… while he’s not there yet, I fully expect…

José Ramirez to be one of the greatest Indians/Guardians of all time. His numbers certainly project that he will be.

But if I can’t put Josey up there yet, I’d have to go Lofton (Omar maybe too, but he didn’t have Kenny’s bat)

Good news for baseball, but especially Baltimore fans. If the new owners actually care about winning, this team will run the AL East for a while.

Bad for the Red Sox but good for baseball so I guess I’m ok with it. Baltimore is stacked if they want to be

Justin Turner to the Jays. Every young hitter on the Jays just got better.

Looks like a fleecing too. The new Orioles ownership isn’t messing around. How long until they lock up Adley and Gunnar long term?

The way its going so far, tomorrow.

I actually don't hate the return for Burnes. Two guys with decent upside and a near first round pick for a guy who wasn't coming back in 2025. Could we have gotten more at the deadline and a half season of quality starts? Yeah, but he also could have gotten hurt, we eat his 15 million, get nothing, and he walks in '25 anyway.

    the orioles got fleeced.

what’d they give up, their 6+7th ranked prospects and a future pick?

had the brewers made a QO to burnes they would have had a good pick.

Verlander netter the Mets the Astros number 1 and he had way more money attached to an old arm.

This like the Lucas Giolito deal except Burnes is way better. I really don’t understand it, especially in light of what they were asking for from the Yankees (the martian and volpe) but also as a stand alone deal.

with the deal in place and burnes moving the orioles are pretty scary all of a sudden in a division that is still completely stacked.

i wonder if Tampa would feel the need to respond by doing something crazy like bring Bauer back the play MLB.

    .
Disagree. They have a stacked farm and gave up 2 guys hovering right around 100 in most MLB prospect lists. They may pan out, but of all the teams to prospect hug, the Orioles aren't it. They won over 100 games last year with shit pitching. They now have a legit ace and should be in championship now mode for the next few years. If I was an O's fan I would be begging for either Snell or Monty now. The Yankees are going to be better this year with a healthy Judge and Juan Soto on a contract year, but the Sox are more interested in PGA partnerships than competitive baseball, and the Rays and Jays are meh in my opinion. One more pitcher and Baltimore is the class of the AL.

More importantly now that the Brewers are in sell mode, the Dodgers need to find a way to get Devin Williams.

7 days until LA pitchers and catchers report.
