Andres Gimenez and Steven Kwan each earn their 3rd Gold Gloves - one for each season in the Bigs. Gimenez should be in line for his second consecutive Platinum Glove as well.

Hat tip to former member of the Tribe and all around good guy, Carlos Santana for taking home his 1st Gold Glove at almost 39 years old too.

A very long, but interesting piece on Pete Rose, the arc of his life, and legacy.

    https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...tting-gambling

I think the author veers off the tracks for a bit, delving into current social justice touchstones that take away from the overall theme as well as stretching to tie points into the theme itself, but it's well written and interesting for sure. What a complicated person and legacy for sure.

"Atlanta, thank you for everything. Ever since my brother played here, you have been amazing to me and my family. I feel like I was not only part of the team, but part of the city. Thank you to all the fans, the coaches, the staff, and most importantly the players," d'Arnaud wrote in an Instagram post.

"I made a lot of lifelong friendships and hope for nothing but the best always. Every one of y'all made driving to the field feel like a blessing. I will be forever grateful for everything.

Nate Silver was talking about sports gambling with Michael Lewis this week. He refers to sports bettors as “degenerates”.

I’m hugely anti gambling and can’t stand that every other ad on sports media is now for Fanduel or whatever but i found the whole conversation interesting.

Read that Pete Rose article I linked above, there's a very apt take on the hypocrisy of MLB and gambling and how that marriage dominates each and every single piece of experiencing the game these days.

i’ll get around to it. i’m not a hypocrite though - i hate seeing the odds in the box score. i hate the patches. i hate the ads. and i have ZERO love for Pete Rose. I want mlb to do some soul searching, not to celebrate the scum but to rid themselves of the “easy” monday which will undoubtedly lead to another scandal. or even if it doesn’t, stop being party to people throwing so much hard earned income on nothing and have some semblance of a moral compass. it’s fucking gross!

iirc nate says that he bet 2M and won 50k putting him in the 97th percentile of sports gamblers. but because of his success. draftkings/fanduel capped his bets so he couldn’t win more. it’s truly both rigged and disgusting.

Not that I disagree with much of what you said, but the day that MLB got in bed with the sportsbooks all while simultaneously washing their hands of the steroid era only to celebrate those in charge during it (Selig in the HoF) while silent banning those on the field who did (Clemens, Bonds, et al), the chance at any soul searching on the part of MLB went over the horizon.

The soul searching will definitely happen. It will just be in 50 years or so. Just look how long it took MLB to recognize negro league stats.

It was announced that the Rays will be playing in the Yankees' spring training park next season (Steinbrenner Field in Tampa). 12,000 seats. Finally the Rays will be able to sell out games!

So two teams playing in minor league stadia next year with the A's in Sacramento till their new stadium in Vegas is finished.

I think it's hilarious that the Rays will be playing in a stadium named "Steinbrenner Field".

Seems like there will be lots of rain delays playing outdoors in Tampa in the summer.

I've been saying for a while that the shit is going to hit the fan soon with all of this gambling on every sports telecast and other TV. Surprised it hasn't blown up already. So much money that there has to be shenanigans going on. I let out a big F you every time I see an ad or talk shows talking about it.

What chaps my ass about all the gambling shit is that you can't see a single written article or tv segment about a sporting event you actually want to read or hear about without first hearing about the betting aspects related to it, and the rest of the league, first.

I couldn't give a crap about how a team didn't cover or who took a beat on this or that, just shut up and tell me the plays and the scores.

Its like fantasy football. No one wants to hear you talk about it and they sure as shit don't want to hear you talk about your bets.

Good for Chris Sale getting his first cy young, he finally put together a healthy year and got it done.

Happy for Judge for what should have been his third MVP as well (it was his second, thanks Altuve). You picked a shitty time for your first error of the year, but I can't be mad at you. Thanks for the season and please use any pull you have to get boone fired into the sun.

    TIA

Not gonna lie, I feel bad for Judge. He’s getting so much online hate that he can’t even enjoy his MVP.

How about Shohei though! 3 unanimous MVP’s in 4 years and the first ever MVP from a DH. Not bad for a guy coming off a tj surgery 11 months ago and only making $2 million a year. What a great time to be a baseball fan.

If not for Judge, Shohei would have 4 straight unanimous MVPs. Crazy.
