Well I hated you and your dads team in the 70s, but cool to hear. We need a rational Yankees fan around here.

In addition to Dodgers games in Philly & citi field we went to a rando Royals game @ the Stadium ands saw this years Cy Young winner strikeout 10, which was cool as my boy is a right handed pitcher & Cole is a great one to watch work.

The Yankees need left handed hitting. Soto is an elite hitter. Fair at best in the field, but he is athletic enough to be average if he hustles. Soto and Judge protecting each other will be effective.

I also like the trade they made with the Sux. Verdugo is a 260+ hitter, makes a lot of contact, which the Yankees need, and is an excellent fielder. Good defense sub or relief.

Sorry to see King go though. And I still don’t know about 3d base

Verdugo wasn’t that good in the field.

But hey he’s replacing Stanton, Soto, or judge in the field so low bar. That’s why you pay $45million for a .260 hitter. So Alex verdugo can come in and replace him.

Always good to watch Cole work. We saw him throw on what might have been his worst start of the season back on May 12. He exited early but Rizzo saved the day by hitting two bombs. And my son walked away with three Judge bobble-heads.

King was a stud. Think I read his ERA once moving to starter was 1.88, nevermnd that he was rock solid out of the pen... all while being overworked. But I'm sure Soto will come over and completely collapse.

I inherited my dad's passion, along with his collection of yearbooks from the 50's on, but I also got his pessimism. I expect them to lose pretty much every game.

How long are the deferrals going to be? I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s getting that $700 million over 20+ years.

When money in a contract is deferred, the competitive-balance tax number — the luxury tax — is discounted. With a source saying a “majority” of Ohtani’s contract is deferred, the discount could be significant. Typically, a CBT number is the average annual value of a deal — in this case $70 million. But depending on the size and length of the deferrals, Ohtani’s CBT number is likelier to wind up in the $40-50 million-a-year range, an enormous benefit for the Dodgers.

The deferrals also affect the net present value of the deal. There’s a rule of thumb across all walks of life: Money today is more valuable than money tomorrow, inflation being what it is. When you defer money, you’re taking less. The Dodgers are operating in an environment in which the prime rate is 8.5%. And with money today being so pricey, it lowers the present-day value of the deal by a significant margin.

Regardless, in the end, Shohei Ohtani will be paid 700 million US dollars by the Dodgers. It’s an obscene amount of money. It’s just going to be seen as less by the league’s accounting — and will allow the Dodgers to add even more around Ohtani as they try to win a championship.”
