    Wtb cheap dad skis

Looking for some cheap fuck around while skiing with the kid skis to complement my selection of chargers. Something fun on blues and in the woods, twin tips would be nice so I can attempt to learn to ski switch. Can be beat up but want to be able to put a decent edge on them so no rail skis. I have some sth1s I can move over for a 320bsl Looking to spend sun $100 and can pick up in Seattle.

180ish would be great would consider down to 170 or up to 190 as well. My normal daily’s are 189 bonafides so figure most anything will feel playful in comparison.

One thing you may consider is that if most of your days on the hill now are family style - why have a beater pair when you get your only shot at a few free laps (while your kids are having fries and coco with your wife..) It’s not difficult to take it easy on moderate chargers but it’s hard to charge on beater playful twin tips.
We found kids need breaks. My wife and I would take turns having laps while the other lodged with our kiddo. I quickly valued having proper skis every time I was at the mountain.

Hard to argue with CLuke but...

I have a pair of 2015 178cm Dynastar Sultan 85 (Legend from that era) with the Look/Dynastar Fluid (PX) bindings. Set to any BSL with the flip of a switch. Despite being vintage, they got very little use. I bought them for my dad and they were too long and stiff for him (He's 84 and about 5'6"/145# these days). I took them back and used the bindings on a different pair of skis last year. I did ski them for one day at the end of the season and they skied pretty well but I've got way too many skis to keep them.

You can have them for beer$$ + shipping (PirateShip makes shipping reasonably affordable). Lemme know if you want pics.

All true. Just don’t care about the top sheets as your grom will run them over, mostly unintentionally (as you lift them off the snow etc…)

I went with some shorty k2 public enemies that are super fun to ski even if I'm not picking kids up off the snow. They made it super easy to flip a bitch and stomp up the hill to pick up the kiddos. Now they get up on their own. But I definitely valued the shorty twin tip for a while. Still a fun little pair of skis, fwiw I normally ski 190+ skis, and I love my little 165 public enemies.

I've got some 2020 Blizzard Rustler 10's in 188. Skied for one season before I moved on. They're flat and have one mount for a 24/24.5 mondo boot. In Seattle. Cheers.

My wife has health issues so hasn’t been able to ski so I’m either a charging day or a kid day most of the time and my son is now 7 so progressing enough that we are actually skiing together. I have been snowplowing down groomers with him on old dynasty sultan 94 but want something more playful. My primary skis are bonafides and super goats so both biased towards going fast. Thinking something that makes slow tight turns and side hits fun to keep me entertained. I could throw more money at this niche but not sure it gets me a ton.
I think the sultans and rustler 10s are probably too close to what I already have to make them worth it.

Skiing with kids is the best time to learn tele. Free heels also help scoot around the flat learning areas. Just sayin'.

I was on shorter (for me) Bibbys when I taught my kids. Twin tips were nice for all the backwards training wheel days, and they’re great in all conditions, despite being 116mm underfoot.

I used an old pair of 178 Rossi S7’s teaching my kid. Kind of pissed I sold them, they were fun skis.

I’ve got a pair of 188 S7’s you can have for free. They’re in Lions Bay( 1 minute off highway) on the way to Whistler . Perhaps you or a friend might me coming up in a couple weeks for opening day . They’ve got 1 mount for pivots . Couple professionally repaired spots . Lots of life left . I bought them for the pivots ….

Mighty generous offer lemmy. If I hit Whistler this year it likely won’t be until February but I may just PM you anyway to see if they’re still around.

I’m not heading north until February as well but thinking smaller for this ski. Tempted to blow the budget on some line blades but the MTB needs a new shock too and the toy budget is only so big.

Hi Carl , my posting was actually meant for you. If you don’t want them , then AK , they’re yours if you feel like swinging by . They are definitely the smallest 188 I’ve picked up. There’s a lot of tip and tail not touching snow!

Reckoners are on the radar. Waxloaf offered up some relatively cheap blades that are probably the winner. I like carving and these should make that fun at low speeds and be good at jumping off little shit. Will be happy to lend them out for demos at summit as well.

Bought waxloafs blades for double the original budget thanks for the encouragement. These should be a nice addition to the quiver and might even make it out on some non kid days

Dad skis tested for the first time today, I think I might need to hit the tips and tails with a gummy after I set the edges at 3 and poslished with the stone but should be fun, thanks waxloaf and phatty. With the El Niño these might end up being my most used skis this year.
