That's because all the sand is in the 89S exit lane off I80, which has basicially been a dirt road for weeks. Until today.
Re school still on vacation--today the longest lines were TLC > RH > Summit. Odd for a powder day but consistent with the demographic.

Random question—anyone know a station selling ethanol free gas in the basin? I usually get gas for the snowblower at the Gardnerville Maverik but don’t have a reason to go there this week…

Can you buy AV fuel at the airport? It’s leaded (don’t use it in your car), but no ethanol.

I’ve been running it for over 600 hrs in my Honda generator. Several of the local small engine shops recommend it for all carburetor engines that aren’t in motor vehicles (because that’s illegal). One even sells racing fuel (much more expensive) in large jugs for customers that don’t want to go to the airport.

I love that at no point it was unsafe to operate the Gondola but we won’t operate the Gondola until it’s fixed. Sounds like the statement was reviewed by a lawyer.

KW was parked out at noon today. They parallel parked instead of angle parked once past Fremont, where the road and shoulder are actually wider, so technically could fit more cars. TC and Chair 5 were super busy. Not sure how many more intermediates they can accommodate. Snow was excellent again. It is now officially low tide and the low tide hits are in. Patrol said something about maybe another lift opening sometime mid day tomorrow. We did ski off 3 a bit today for fresh lines and coverage looks good back there.

My guess is that running it isn’t dangerous but that the failing bearing could cause significant damage to other components making the fix much more involved.

Shuttle buses between SLT/HV and kirkwood meadows is needed (I never knew it stopped for employees), but saturday will be an interesting day to start it up considering the wx fx.

'Availability not guaranteed'. So I'll just 'walk up' and hope. Heavenly has raised the bar for clown show operations. Plus it should be real fun when the pass likely closes on Saturday.

With these temps they should be able to blow enough snow to get Stage open in time for the inevitable power outage.

Meanwhile, Alpine skied excellent yesterday from top to bottom with not too much in the way of lines.

I just found the wording interesting as well as the lack of details other than it was a bearing. I would be particularly interested if this was found during a routine inspection and if it wasn’t then why didn’t a routine inspection find this. Bearings do fail and need to be checked periodically especially before peak ski season .

Also, what constitutes dangerous? Obviously if the Gondola had a risk of falling that is dangerous but what about if all the passengers need to be offloaded? Does that extra risk meet the dangerous threshold?

Sounds like they’re gonna spin it Saturday, tramway should be even more fun once it’s spinning.

That was a fun night. Happens every year. That road was slick AF/unwalkable but totally driveable with appropriate equipment and skill
