I wonder how good the Icon data analysis team is. If they aggregate all the data in one place determining whether someone shows up seems reasonable. I would look at scanned license plates, sales at stores and lodges, whether pass was used etc.

The simplest way to enforce reservations is to only allow reservation holders plus some extra people to account for car pooling to use their passes on reservation days. Parking employees could scan passes of non carpoolers to prevent abuse of people reserving extra people but not carpooling. Of course season passes now become just a fee you pay to have the right to make a reservation. Wait, they already have…

In theory they have the data but I can almost guarantee they don't know how to properly utilize it. I work in the data/analytics field and it never ceases to amaze me how even huge billion dollar+ companies don't know their ass from the elbow when it comes to capturing data and utilizing it effectively. Especially since the parking thing is new for them.

Just saw HV will have parking reservations in the morning at Cali base, starting this weekend. They are opening lifts in a patchwork manner. Coupla NV lifts/runs available from Gondi. Or coupla runs and lifts in CA from that base.

You guys are aware reservations have been used at other ski resorts the last few seasons? Not defending it because I do think it's a pretty fucked up thing to do to your customers, but I'm guessing they have a decent idea of how this thing should work. But it's pretty clear the best solution for everyone is to ski Bear Valley and stay far away from Tahoe.

If I can't park, I can't park. If I'm hurt, I'm hurt. Simple as that. It's not about that at all. But it's easy to talk about and sum it up when you just talk about parking; we're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise SLAYER, and we're in here talking about parking. I mean, listen, we're talking about parking. Not SKIING! Not SHREDDING! Not SLAYING GNAR! We're talking about parking. Not SKIING; not SKIING that I go out there and die for and SHRED every SKI DAY like it's my last, not SHREDDING, we're talking about parking, man. I mean, how silly is that? We're talking about parking. I know I'm supposed to be there, I know I'm supposed to lead by example, I know that. And I'm not shoving it aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important. I do. I honestly do. But we're talking about parking, man. What are we talking about? Parking? We're talking about parking, man!

We're talking about parking! We're talking about parking... We ain't talking about SKIING! We're talking about parking, man! When you come to the arena, and you see me SLAY GNAR... You see me SHRED, don't you?

Look, I hear you. It's funny to me too. It's strange to me too. But we're talking about parking, man. We're not even talking about the SHREDDING, the actual game of SKIING, when it matters, we're talking about parking.

Resorts that use the exact same vendor as Palisades: Alta, Brighton, Crystal, Heavenly, Northstar, Park City, Solitude. At least a few of them were in use last year.

Hope it snows soon so we can focus. Last weekend was good enough on the N. side of Castle on Sat. to go back and do it again on Sun. Measured about 100 cm at 8000 ft on the north face with ~15 cm supportable/boot pen. on top with wet facets below. The cornice at the top of the gully to the skiers left at the ridge above the rest stop had broken off and the entire skiers left side had slid to the ground with a big debris pile in the bowl at the bottom [~650 t?]. How would that fly? I wouldn’t be able to pull that off, but I’d like to see all the responses this season.
Anyone who goes to Olympic on a weekend just to shop and eat lunch should have the book thrown at them. Lifetime ban for them unto the third generation. Or maybe 5th.

I parked at Cal Base and shuttled to gondola so I could ski the steeps of Dipper then skied back to Cal Base-well, chairlifted back down to Cal Base. NV side was much better skiing than Ridge Run. I would bet Skyline trail will be open tomorrow. There will be plenty of parking at Cal Base after noon o'clock, I imagine. I'll skip tomorrow because weekend HV is fucking terrifying.

Heavenly’s lift layout is an atrocity

Looks like Palisades is getting some things going with Mountain Run open and Roundhouse at Alpine. Maybe with the inversions they can get some more snow at the base of summit.
There's barely a line at roundhouse I can't imagine parking is an issue.

Forecasted rain/snow level of 8300' or so for Monday isn't going to help base level snow anywhere.

If they could make snow tonight they should be able to make a difference. They really need a little more for the rfid gates and I'm sure they'd like to widen the creek crossing a bit.

I thought I could arrive at noon without a reservation but it's 1 pm. I stopped at Deer Park and was able to create an account and make a reservation in like 2 minutes. With an account you could make one at the light

KW skied brilliantly today. Sharks, etc is the usual suspect zones with low snow but coverage is great compared to Palisades last week. Buckboard on 11 and Outlaw on 5 groomed. Everything else natural and great coverage down low. TC groomed out. Gullies need a bit more snow. Rollovers need a bit more snow. Hole in the Wall and Lower Nostril are in. Ski School perhaps as well. Snow was great all over, but my kid really enjoyed crushing lower Zach's with packed bumps. Everything was easy to edge except maybe the groomed stretch right under the top of 5. Even slipped into a 4 person lot with only 2 of us. Attendant suggested I fill the car with dummies next time. Next storm looks good for the high elevations spots. Rain turning to snow will sparkle another foot on. Then some cold snow to follow would be a great way to bring in the new year.

    Q about Luther pass parking

Does anyone know if it’s mellow to crash for the night in a truck camper at the Waterhouse/grass lake parking pull out or would Chp give you a hard time ? Like on a sunny non weather day with no plow issues. Thanks in advance !

^^^ In the past, long ago, when I used to sleep in my truck, when I was youthful, I would not bother trying to park there. Buy a snow park pass and park in Hope Valley and don't worry about being bothered is my two cents. Someone local might have a better idea of what the post covid parking world looks like up there.

Sunday at the wood was a little less nice due to the warmth on Saturday and things getting a bit more solid overnight. Still plenty of fun for a half day. I do want to share that skiing there really is not as dangerous as was shared above. Certainly does not require large balls or rolling the dice with an ortho visit. There is better coverage than during the drought years for sure. I recall many more snow snakes up through President's Weekend in those lean winters. Ski the concave and avoid the convex and your knees and most of your ptex will be fine. My kid and I had a blast - we really do enjoy the lower angle bumps off of 5/11 and you only get those in low tide. Once they get enough to groom, all those runs become too flat. Hope this cycle cools down and we get a fresh glacier base.

Hi Tahoe mags, I'm looking for a cheap starter BC setup for my girlfriend.

    160 to 170 ish length
    95 to 110 underfoot preferred
Some modern rocker profiling also preferred
Not too stiff flex. Lighter weight for uphill if possible
Skins to match skis an extra bonus!
Pin bindings (will buy separate if best option)

Wondering if anyone has something sitting around in their garage that they might be keen to unload?
Doesn't have to be the latest and greatest, nor the most pristine. Just something to get her out on.

    Thanks

Skied a wee bit this past weekend. First lap of the day on Lakeview down to Resort seems the most logical and hasn't disappointed yet. That first lap each morning give you that sense of skiing...fast as can be and nobody to block your turns. However, that changes quickly on lap 2. I did manage to have some enjoyable skiing on Red Dog, skiing some off-piste around the S-turn above Far East and skiing the edges on and off the run of Red Dog Face. Ran over to Alpine to take a look mid morning and holy hell I've never experience the amount of people on the 'run.' Quite shocking to be honest. We did manage to ride all the chairs...heh. And then at noon on Saturday, my little guy wasn't feeling well so I had to grab him early and then my ski weekend was done. Yay for parenting!

Is it snowing up top at KW?

Reno based colleague said he heard it was snowing at Rose. KW summit is just as high, so either it's snowing there too, he is wrong, or God hates me.

    Webcam unclear.

I looked at the Rose base cam at 1:45 and it was looking like all snow. Even sticking to the trees and picnic tables. I then looked at the KW cam and did not see snow on any of the trees, tho further up the visibility made it hard to tell. But I'm guessing it was snow above the top of 5, and even down a little lower. The next few days will tell.
