I've come up dry at that place much more often than not (and the ski gear selection is usually old and beat to hell), but damn, there was this one time when I walked out of there with really nice lightly used GoreTex jackets for the whole family, plus some other nice items.

Also, it should go without saying but talking to your local fire department about your plan would be a great idea. Treat the government plan as the bare minimum that it is.
I agree with all of that.

Somehow this blurb puts me in mind of Wildflower Baking at (squaw).
I wonder if the amazing Suzanne has been scooped up? Or just given up? Sad either way.

No Wildflour chocolate chip cookies and a black coffee after skiing would put a sting in my routine. Without knowing anything, the more the merrier. There's not much in the village other than Wildflour, Coffee Bar & Starbucks for pre-ski team drop off breakfast. Plumpjack killed their breakfast since Covid.

Fixed gear or single speed? Enquiring minds must know.....

FWIW, my evac plan involves boldly heading east while all others head west.

I hope they’re still trying to connect Sawtooth to 89. That would be great.

Yes, for linking longer rides together it would be fantastic. There’s so many different loops this would enable. Especially since they’re going to continue the bike path from TC to OV so it goes all the way to Truckee. No more crossing privately owned bridges to get to 89, either, even though the current property owners are cool about it unlike the previous owners.

Where are you thinking? I don’t know of any bridges on 89 below sawtooth. The only bridge I’ve ever used is exiting deer creek but that’s basically at the entrance to OV road

Yeah Deer Creek is currently the only option and only because the new property owners are okay with it (there are many stories of ugly confrontations with the previous owners holding riders at gun point).

The plan proposed a few years ago would include single track from sawtooth down to a new bridge crossing and you could easily head over to jackass or hop on the yet to be built paved bike path along that part of 89. It would really tie things together nicely. I’m not sure if that plan has been amended or not but it sounds great to me.

There are people in this thread who can probably speak to the specifics.

That would be way cool. I did the Deer Creek crossing a few times and never felt very welcome. That was years ago.

Last week I did the Thelin trailhead to Watson, full Big Chief to Sawtooth. What an epic ride!!

I don't get away from Martis Peak much. I was super impressed with the trail work going on over there. Huge ups and thanks to those putting in work!!

Ok thought there was something i wasn’t aware of. I could see trail building happening from sawtooth down, but I don’t think any bridge building will be likely so I won’t be holding my breath.

The current deer creek bridge exit has been fine for as long as I can recall. Maybe the issue was before the trail was re-rerouted back towards the lake. There was a previous incarnation that dumped out at a property further downriver ? Idk, but glad it’s an option now

We just got a new bridge over the river along west river street in truckee. It’s not that far fetched. Huge difference between a foot bridge and one that supports vehicles.

A bridge going into Truckee is a much easier sell than one just connecting a couple of trail heads on either side of 89. Even if it’s just a footy. It would be nice but I’m not gonna hold my breath on that one

They're going to build a new bridge and parking lot east of the 89/west river intersection where that burned out a-frame is.

They already built most of the paved trail south of the river between downtown and 89. The project was held up for a while bc of a shitty property owner south of the river. Not sure if it's still held up or not.

You have to remember this isn’t Marin. Things actually get done around here - to a surprising degree compared to most of the state.

IDK about that for two projects I would have loved
Ice rink (abandoned after years of work/planning) and Rocker skatepark (shovel ready after many many years of work and planning, still waiting)

I first heard about this 3 or 4 years ago, new singletrack from somewhere along Sawtooth, down to a new bridge near W River & 89.
Haven't given it any thought recently but glad to hear things are moving again.
