Yeah, I was being hyperbolic, as usual. I've been to TF ER, my kid has been a couple of times, my wife as well. When you gotta go you gotta go. But I wouldn't get my regular medical care or elective surgery other than ortho there.
Here's a list of infections for various procedures in California hospitals. Actual and expected numbers of infections are listed. TF seems to be doing ok, although the number of cases is too small to be statistically meaningful.

The reasons I don't like TF are several. In the past there was a problem with inappropriate procedures and billing by a couple of providers. An anesthesiologist with a substance problem was repeatedly sent to rehab without notifying the Medical Board, until he killed a HS football player having shoulder surgery. The main driver of hospital solvency is chemotherapy drugs--charging extremely high prices over cost. The cancer center is a huge boondoggle--inappropriate for a critical access hospital like TF. There are far more oncologists and radiation oncologists on staff than the population justifies. In other words there is a high motivation to prescribe chemotherapy and radiation therapy, whether or not is justified. I cannot cite any cases, just my feeling that the financial motivation is very strong. OTOH critical access hospitals are--wait for it--critical for a community and a lot of them go bust every year, so maybe getting chemo you don't need is taking one for the team.
The first to incidents I cited occured some years ago and may or may not still be relevant.
In general I think TF should be focusing on providing basic primary care to the community, providing emergency care including hospitalization and surgery to locals and visitors, and orthopedic care. I don't what insurance networks TF is part of but it should be focusing on being in or joining networks that allow Truckee Tahoe patients to get specialty care in Sac and Reno.
A friend of mine had some inept cancer treatment there. They called the oncologist dr doom because of her bedside manor. She insisted there was one cancer when in fact there were two that needed treatment. You’d think a cancer center would go out of there way not to miss anything and give some hope but they seemed to do the opposite.
Cold front incoming...just sayin'. Great boating weather. Bring those chains!
Friday
A chance of showers after 11am. Snow level 7900 feet rising to 8500 feet in the afternoon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.
For every thing, turn, TUrn, TURN!
Speaking of change...
A simple hillside cabin overlooking the popular slopes of Palisades Tahoe ski resort in Northern California was considered progressive back in May 1958 when it was featured on the cover of Sunset magazine ... Once a small cozy cabin built by famous architect Henrik Bull is remodeled as a ski home and for sale near Lake Tahoe ski resort for $5M.

The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

Remodeled? They tripled it.

How did that count as a remodel? Lol.
powdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.
Just saw SaT is on Ikon now. Boo...prolly.

The Borg is relentless
Wonder if that is keeping them afloat after the fire? I assume visits were way down since then?
This is such bad news I just can't believe it. I made the switch from IKON to S@T pass this year hoping to get away from the IKONIC shitshow. I'll probably try to cancel the S@T pass now but not sure where to go...maybe get the Bear Valley pass and drive farther I don't know.
When people see how cool the new West Bowl is visits to Sierra will go up and they will likely sell more passes. Bad for me but probably good for the resort. Good for Palisades too as might take some pressure off parking crowding.
BV can be good but it can be very frustrating to ski there
I patrolled there for a few years, and Dodge for a dozen
good thing is you can get a Cali Pass - Bear Valley, Dodge Ridge, and China Peak
BV is fantastic when stuff gets open but they struggle to open terrain - new patrol director should help
DR is fantastic because it’s not rad - it’s just fun
at this point the only places I’d get a pass are Granlibakken, Homewood, Soda Springs, and Donner Ski Ranch
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
I for one, am kind of happy my Mammoth Pass is now good as somewhere not off 80. It's not enough for me to ditch my Kirkwood Pass, because you still need to drive through SAC and coming from SC, that just sucks. I'm sure it will change the place a bit, but maybe not quite he draw of those other resorts. It is important to emphasize how boring, and short and the best tree skiing is ruined, etc. when discuss S@T with the Ikoners. And its flat, and the toilets are not clean. So on and so forth.
BV and DR are both very enjoyable resorts. Low though. I could spend at least a season at either one, but with DR, you are giving up any gnarportunities, except for that one rock.
duffs, if you decide to go back ikon, send me a PM. My money is it takes at least a season for it to become a shit show, and maybe it does not happen. And when you choose to drive, drive to Mammoth. Mid week that place is soo much better than Palisades. Never spent a weekend there in winter, but come April, weekends can be quite fun as well. Rarely a lift line, and no traffic coming from the north. O otherwise, condolences.
S@T being on IKON is great news for me. I got the IKON pass this year (along with EPIC), and S@T is only 45 minutes from my house. Now I can easliy do half days. It does suck for those that were only getting the Sierra pass.
What chaps my ass is the put on a happy face attitude S@T is taking with Ikon. It's clear this is a financial move. The last few years have not been kind to that place. People would cut them MILES of slack if they just said, "hey, in order to stay open and financially viable we need to bring Ikon in to boost our revenue" But instead they try to make it sound like its some kind of good deal for skiers there. As an existing pass holder, I will get more crowds and nothing else. That said, I'd rather have an open Ikon affiliated Sierra vs an out of business one.
