Wait, was this around the time Schralp melted his dossbag with hot rocks from the fire?

Anyway, it was cold some of those Mammy Mini nights.
I too wonder why you'd need a fire when its like 40's/50's(?) overnight. But so hot throughout day.

It wasn’t Schralph, it was MachLooney, who in addition to melting his sleeping bag also dressed up as Dick Cheney in jeans one year and had stickers stating “Cheney Skis In Jeans.”

    Ah, the good old days!!!

You forgot the "and a starter jacket" part. "As in Cheney Skis In Jeans and a starter jacket." I still have a couple of those stickers!

Looks like they got on it pretty quickly. It was just pouring rain 2 hours ago. Go figure.

We're starting to see smoke from the Crozier fire in El Dorado County. Started today, 400 acres, 5% contained. This one looks like it has the possibility of getting a lot bigger.

Woke up this morning and it felt like I slept next to a campfire. Ugh. We’ve been pretty lucky so far this summer at least. Good excuse to leave town for a few days - Purple Air had a 170 rating for Truckee.

It’s really variable around the lake but it woke me up and was enough to keep me off the bike today for sure

Nasty earlier, but decent right now. Can see the stars well and the mountains across the lake as of right now. Nice to open windows and cool house off instead of sleeping in a sauna like I thought I’d be (both my old fans broke this past week)

In case you missed it... Alterra is back with the KSL game plan for converting Squa-lympic Valley into The Resort of Waterslides and Enclosed Payment-Required Parking Lots.

It looks like the same (SAME!) proposal that they put forward in 2012 and Placer County approved in 2016, despite receiving over 90+% of comments opposed to the project. Sierra Watch sued based on inadequacy of the environmental review, and won in court in 2022. Alterra redid the environmental review, and probably will have fully bulletproofed it.

If you care, please consider showing up to tell the County (which approves the project) know how you feel. Below follows meeting info from Sierra Sun:

The county will host a virtual community meeting regarding the Village at Palisades Tahoe Specific Plan to present project information pertaining to transportation and transit, fire and emergency evacuation and water supply Thursday, Aug. 15 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Participants will be able to submit questions on these topics through an online chat managed by county staff. That meeting will be held via Zoom here.

The Village at Palisades Tahoe Specific Plan will also be discussed at a special joint meeting of the Olympic Valley Municipal Advisory Council and the North Tahoe Regional Advisory Council on Aug. 17. The meeting will be held in the Palisades Tahoe Ballroom at 1750 Village East Road in Olympic Valley. It will begin at 10 a.m. and will be streamed virtually via Zoom. Seating may be limited. The final revised EIR is also available for review in person, at the same link, via computer kiosks at Placer County libraries, the Placer County Community Development Resource Agency (3091 County Center Drive in Auburn), at the County Executive Office in Tahoe (775 N. Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City), and the County Clerk-Recorder’s Office (2954 Richardson Drive in Auburn).

A hearing before the Planning Commission is scheduled for Sept. 5 at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach. An agenda for the hearing including the time the item will be considered will be available no later than 72 hours before the meeting at this link. At this meeting, the commission will consider a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors to approve or disapprove requested project entitlements and certify the final EIR. A hearing before the Board of Supervisors to certify the final EIR and take action on the requested specific plan entitlements has not been scheduled but is anticipated to occur late fall or early winter 2024.

    You think your opinion matters….

The gov system needs to be rebuilt because it doesn’t seem to be providing much service to the people.

Why can’t our county lines be redrawn to stop everyone from over the hill from driving our community into the ground?

What happened to incorporate North Lake Tahoe?

Cindy G will be the only no vote to this… Let’s just hope she keeps her seat in November. If not, we won’t have any Tahoe people on the board. District 5 now goes way down the hill and we are losing our voice.

Well, at least this time Kamala can’t stab us in the back with a last second backroom deal with TRPA the night before the meeting. (Yes, I’m still going to vote for her).

As for the incorporation attempt, that was dead in the water when alpine meadows residents refused to take part with the Olympic Valley contingent. There were other major hurdles as well.

Other Truckee area taxpayers are subsidizing fire protection for Martis Valley (Schaeffer Mill, part of Lahontan, and Martis Camp). Placer County refuses to give Truckee FD its share of property taxes collected from those neighborhoods.

I'd be willing to bet that most folks there receiving the benefit of the beach reclamation project are dead set again "socialism".
The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

Just got a red flag warning to prepare to evacuate Truckee. Fire off DPR near Safeway. Fuck. Anyone got any more specific details?

Current evac prep zone - I’m just outside of it.

Still lots of craft flying overhead. They’re probably just not messing around anymore after recent events.

The one along 80 in the canyon(Quilici Ranch/Verdi) is still going strong this morning, and is now at 400 acres.
