Tahoe '23/'24 - Reserve Now For Best Pricing!!!

It’s Lake Tahoe School in Incline. $50k+ per kid per year. I guess if you can afford that good for you, but that’s just nutty to me.

Anyway I was told the hockey pool (which I had never heard of before) is going to be utilized by local schools and athletic programs and that’s why it was permitted. But this is second hand so I could be butchering the details so take it with a grain of salt.

LOL. Me too. That sure seems like a sport that didn't need to be invented.

    I goggled it, too!

Invented by the Brits back in the 1950’s, so it’s semi-legit.

If it was just something you did by breaking into a facility late night w your drunk friends like broom hockey, I’d sorta get that - but organized leagues and the headline for pool use case ? Everyone should get a kick in the nuts for that

I’m refusing to look it up!

But I’m thinking public, naked, coed, beer league, free games. Right?

I thought it was a typo.
    Underwater hockey? wtf.
So it’s like lazy water polo. No need to swim.
    Basket weaving wasn’t enough?

The Royal Fire, which has grown to roughly 100 acres, broke out on Sunday evening in the area of Royal Gorge and is putting up a large plume of smoke visible from Interstate 80.

Officials with the Tahoe National Forest said the fire is spreading rapidly due to difficult and remote terrain.

CAL FIRE quickly determined the blaze was started by an escaped campfire that hikers stumbled upon.
It’s been a billion degrees up here this week. Who starts a fucking campfire when you’ve barely avoided heat stroke during your hike? I don’t get it.

Seriously, I think we hit 98 yesterday. Pretty rare for it not to go below 50 overnight.

Mfers ..its now at 170 acres, and growing. It was so warm in Desolation over the weekend, that we were sleeping outside of our bags, cant imagine having a fire to warmup.

Wind has blown the smoke the other direction so pretty clear in Truckee this am... but still at 0% containment from what I'm hearing. Ugh.

I was hiking Donner Peak this morning. The smoke plume seemed to diminish over the couple of hours I could see it. I didn't see any evidence of air attack.
Dead calm, even on the peak. Hope it stays that way.

There was a wee bit of ash drifting down on Truckee yesterday around 11:30. I was eating lunch in the New Moon backyard for reference.
    Skies weren’t terribly smokey, though.

I know folks have been wondering who needed a campfire when we’ve been having such warm weather. My question has always been: how hard is it to douse your camp fire? I mean who is teaching these fools outdoor skills?

It’s not rocket science. You piss on the fire if you don’t have water, throw dirt on it, stir it up and make sure it’s out. Shouldn’t take more than 15-minutes, tops.

Shit, I spent years attending the Mother’s Day Mammoth Mini gatherings. A large crew of us always camped out on the loop road. We always had campfires and most of us got hammered every night, but we all still managed to put out the campfires (though when you have 20+ people and everybody is pissing on the fire throughout the night, that certainly helps! ).

Then again, I am not surprised
A few summers ago I was camping with a crew down at Jack’s Lake up near Kavanaugh Ridge. There were at least 3 other groups around the lake the same weekend. Everybody had camp fires. Our group was the only one who completely doused and covered our fire the next morning. One group left an actual fire (with like 3-inch flames) still burning when they left. I spent a good hour fetching water from the lake and putting out other people’s campfires.
    Pretty frustrating and perplexing….

This mornings report: The Royal Fire has not grown overnight and has held within its footprint for over 24 hours. Yesterday, ground crews had success with handline construction. Containment was achieved along sections of the left and right flanks of the fire. The incident continues to be supported by significant aviation assets. The fire is located in steep and rugged terrain that is difficult to access by ground. Yesterday, several crews were flown by helicopter into the incident and have hiked to remote locations to engage in containment measures.

Hot and dry conditions persist over the fire area this week. 15-25 mph gusty south-westerly winds are expected this afternoon. Fire behavior overnight was active with backing, flanking and single tree torching.

There are 396 individual personnel assigned to the Royal Fire with resources including 7 Type 1 helicopters including 3 of which are night-capable water-droppers, 1 Type 2 helicopter, 1 air attack, 1 Type 1 24-hour hoist-capable rescue helicopter, 24 crews, 16 engines, 5 dozers, 7 water tenders and several support staff (overhead).

They aren't screwing around. Surprising that we can't see more from donner lake--no visible smoke or smell and I guess most of the flights must have been going south of here, although I've seen the Chinook a few times.

Looks like they don’t want to give it any chance to run. Dropping on ridges well away from the current perimeter:

Haven’t heard the Chinook in a few hours now so I’ll take that as a good sign. Nice that they aren’t messing around with these flare ups given recent history. Wind never really came up today.

Does anyone have any connections that can move a shed from carnelian bay to Tahoe city? It is 10x8X8. The shed mover in Reno said he can’t operate in CA
