Sick dude! Congrats! Looks like great weather on your summit day. I wanna hear some details, did you summit from 14k? What did y’all ski on the way down? How many days did you spend on the mountain? Ski anything else while you were there? Such a fun experience being up there.

We summitted from 14k with acclimatization runs to 17 camp and down rescue. Felt pretty casual (ALOT of physical training went into this and diamox). We skied down WB > R essentially.

Got lucky with a small weather window, however winds were howling so it was damn cold at top. Only 1-2 other parties on route that day which was perfect as we were hauling and had no traffic jams, first up the fix lines and hauled all the way to Denali Pass. The winds met us there and slowed us down substantially as there are no breaks. We summited on days 10-11 (total 13ish days). Acclimatized and Strong the whole way: landed and immediately went to 7.8k, then went single to 11k next day and waited out a storm for a couple days and cached at 13.6k during a weather break, then went to 14 camp for 7 days between weather and wind (where we summitted from).

Ski conditions were sort of abysmal, only one fun day really. Good skiing out of 11 camp tho. The goal was Messner but it was fortified by large crevasses (no exit) and with many unseen between; thought better of it. Orient was next but the 2 - 3 inch windboard between a nasty zipper crust forced us to abandon. If im being honest it was a mountaineering trip with skis on. However exited 14 camp and was at the airstrip in 5-6 hours and queued up for a fast exit. That was nice.

Gives me stoke for an Andes next - maybe the Himalaya in 2026

Nope did it all myself - i have spreadsheets, info, itinerary, lists, menu (vegan), all in a google drive and happy to share with anyone thats looking for it.

Also happy to meet with anyone at a coffee shop to go over the trip and share my experience to help you on your Denali go.

I just got a loose invite to do the Cassin next year, so I might be back up there haha

Yea that was quite the timing, i had just gotten in the van and was about to fall asleep and saw your text! - We did start the trip with bagged salads for the lower camps which was money tho, so your not far off in that assessment haha

idk if this sort of stoke is appreciated - i think many of you know that i've been seeing a really nice lady for the past few years, and she's now 8 months pregnant with our first. it's been a fairly tough journey, and, being our first, we've learned a lot and struggled with a lot more.

having a kid obviously means putting a lot of plans on hold - in her case, she wanted to train and do the Uinta high line trail, and there's just no way that would be happening this year. we still want to do it, just trying to recalibrate our time expectations here a bit.

anyway - today, as she hit 32 weeks officially, stbmrstgapp hiked 12+ miles with nearly 3k of elevation gain. fkn killed it. many people who are not pregnant would have balked at a hike like what we did today, but she absolutely crushed it with minimal complaining.

finally, huge huge huge thank you to ghosthop and his wife for hooking us up with an incredibly generous amount of hand me down baby stuff. because i come from a very Mormon family and we are having a kid out of wedlock, we have gotten absolutely zero by way of support from my side of the family - no one came to our baby shower, no one has reached out to offer help or hand me downs or anything - even though we have well over a dozen family members who live within an hour, not a single one of them has reached out even just to offer congratulations.

so, anyway, it means a whole lot. thanks ghosthop. good to know who your real tribe is.

Keep it rolling, Mrs.Duff was probably at her most active while pregnant (including getting cliffed out in thin cover gad chutes by her dumbass husband around 20 weeks) with our second which made postpartum recovery so much easier for her. Good luck the rest of the way.

Congrats tgapp! Get ready for your life to totally change in the best way possible. Glad to hear your partner is staying active. I took pride as my pregnant wife passed people on the up track touring up Alta in the spring of 2020. Staying active certainly helped her during and after pregnancy.

Also, big thanks to ghosthop! Appreciate the Millcreek pass and CRJ skis a few years back! Dudes a real one and if you ever make it back to Utah be sure to reach out to the mags!

Sorry to hear about the family situation. While AC's family is also pretty devout LDS and they'd be appalled that your family is shunning you. I think all our baby stuff is long gone but I'll see if we have anything to contribute.

As a new dad this year, I will say that It does change things but then you re-calibrate and you still go out on adventures, they just become smaller in scale and actually you become way more efficient at doing things!
