This morning, I heard that Park City is contemplating charging a fee to park at Bonanza Flats and other designated parking along the Guardsman Road. Similar consideration and investigation is being given for all Cottonwood trailheads. While I can agree with ski resort paid parking, trailhead paid parking would be a tough pill to swallow.

Without considering access/equity, I find the Millcreek Pass to not be a burden for how much I use that road. Another example would be Angeles NF has a $30 Adventure pass but the $80 NP pass will cover you as well.

I think it's a small price to pay if the money is directly being used to maintain and improve the public land that is being accessed. Is there a fundamental difference between charging to park at a trailhead in BCC/LCC vs. charging a toll to enter?

Salt Lake Ranger district already has planned fees for BCC and LCC trailheads starting Dec 2024. Spruces, Mill D/Cardiff, and White Pine start 12/1/24.

I seem to recall the NPS pass question being asked after that was announced and the answer being no.

I feel like I asked FS employees I know and it may have been discussed up thread but an America the Beautiful pass would cover. Not sure. If so, buy it at the Cottonwood Heights office so the money stays here

Yes, the America The Beautiful/ Interagency $80 annual pass will cover parking in the Cottonwoods. It will be the same fee program that is already in place in American Fork and Mirror Lake, and similar to what the Forest Service has been doing for years in Socal and the PNW where you can pay for an annual pass for just the local FS trailheads but it is also covered by the $80 pass.

Some confusion is caused by the picnic areas also being included in the document. Picnic area fees are not covered by the $80 annual pass.

Military, Veterans, Gold Star Families, and people with disabilities should know that they have access to free lifetime passes and should get those instead of paying any fees.

I heard the same thing on KPCW. Unfortunately, this is the new reality to combat the overpopularity of that area. Can't remember if fees only during weekends or all the time but can't blame them for thinking of one of these options. Peak summer and fall is insane out there with lots full by 9am and stragglers making up parking spots up and down that road (east and west of the pass). Would hate to pay a fee every time I want to go up there but there's always the free PC bus to the Montage (to get to Empire Pass) and Transit to Trails (which is back this year Thursday to Sunday I think).

What do you do, leave your pass on the dash? My pass is only tied to my half assed signature

That's what I do in AFC. The Forest Circus regularly patrols the lots up there.

Yes, leave it on the dash. They punch a hole to show when it expires, and each years pass has a different image. You can also hang it from your mirror, if you don’t have a hanger you can get one for free at any ranger station or fee booth

Might be time to do a "2024-25 Wasatch Parking / Driving / How does my Ikon Pass work?" thread.

I didn't ski it but it was a nice scramble to the base of the snow of Zeus chute this weekend.

I'm thinking of creating a "2024-25 Wasatch Parking / Driving / How does my Ikon Pass work?" thread and then someone else would start a separate Wasatch stoke thread. I said I'd do it last year but now I gotta do it. Not today but SOMEDAY

I vote for a yearly stoke and permanent parking/traffic/ganjala thread. It would be nice to track the evolving public discourse in one place

The season isn’t over yet. My kid (Hugehairdog) went up and did Main Chute this morning.

Second. I love the stoke. I also enjoy parking / traffic / gondola discussion, but feel guilty posting about it here.

I’m looking to downsize before we move, I have a few issues of Bomb Snow and a copy of Arkade that are destined to a local free library if anyone is interested in print media.

I also have a Millcreek Pass that is good through 5/2025 if someone wants to pick that up on Friday.

I’ll take the Millcreek pass if no one else has claimed it
