X2. Sounds like it was a good race, although I'm not a huge fan of that course. But watching a couple highlights is gonna have to suffice, cause I'm not paying a bunch of money to watch 1 race that I already know the outcome of.

On to loudenville. At least that's back on max.

Lol, not that hard. Pinkbike posts where it is available in each country. Point your free trial VPN at one of them and watch away. I'm on my third email address using ExpressVPN. Gonna need a new email or a new VPN next year.

Or don't and complain about it.

Stoked for Loudenville. Hopeful for Dak. Glad he was able to walk away from his hugie.

Sounds like Gwin is racing this weekend (which also means he's not commentating, unfortunately). Interested to see how that's gonna go. I have a hunch he's still fast.

But more to the point, the very fact that I have to jump through all kinds of hoops to watch the biggest race of the year (which inevitably has the worst coverage and worst commentators of the year) is ridiculous. The UCI can fuck right off.

You cherry picked one part of what I said. I already have several email addresses (old/spam, personal, old/professional). There are dozens of reputable VPN services that offer free trials. I know the interface for ExpressVPN so I've used that several times.

World Champs has always been a separate thing. Complain about it or work around it ????.

Good thing, you can now watch the Flosports broadcast free on YouTube.

I complain about it every year. And I will continue to do so until something changes.

I can't imagine many people are paying for flosports, so sooner or later I'd hope the uci realizes there's a better way to monetize the event.

PM me for a website that has the full version of this event (and virtually all pro bike races). It's an absolute godsend. No ads, no pop ups (at least on PC) no BS. I have nothing to do with the site but prefer not to post it publicly.

    Ding ding ding.
Finally watched it last night. Most boring downhill race I’ve seen. In years.
Not sure if it’s the actual course, but their version of footage made it look like the most unappealing unaesthetic trail ever. I love T Mo, and she’s a really good commentator, but she’s the last thing from I’m a hype man and the strange British man is not only worse but he was also spewing wrong info all race.
They were both boring races until it looked like Coulanges might win. Was tough to see Dak blow up. Was good to see Loic blow up. Humanizes him. And I’m honestly sick of him winning Champs.
So glad I didn’t pay extra for that.
And the idea of signing up for a “free trial” is bullshit. Give them all my info? Give them my credit card? Jump through their hoops to cancel it? Go back a month later to confirm I wasn’t charged? Keep getting marketing emails for a year? That’s not free.

We felt the exact same way about the coverage. We usually watch every race but the coverage was so bad last year that we opted to try to avoid seeing spoilers and then catch the long highlight videos.

I'm sure one of you nerds knows how long this current coverage contract is- any chance it comes back up for bid soon?
We would gladly pay for coverage just not that pile of crap

My go to method is access on PC, go to the fourth mirror page where there's an option to download, onto a a USB stick to then view on TV.

What do you mean? I use it as explained above and haven't had any issues.

In Canada we're kinda screwed for coverage. Even massive events like the grand tours are only accessible on flo (without getting into other providers + vpn). And here you need to pay for a full year of flo and can't download or rewatch - live is the only option.

I think the coverage has improved significantly over last year. Gwin’s commentary was a part of that, but the whole production seems better.

That’s a great podium. Stoked for Reece.
Dak looked like he didn’t want to be there.

That race was exciting, so much on the line. Changing track conditions did play a role, but was not as bad as some of the races a few years ago when it started raining midway through the men’s field

Fun race to watch because of the conditions, but I don’t think there were 10 rocks on the entire course. I remember that being boring AF last year because of the complete lack of tech.

Oh, and compared to the FloSports broadcast, Rick (?) and Gwin were a breath of fresh air.

I think that course is much, much steeper than it looks on camera. Which certainly makes it technical, but the technicality isn't as obvious as a course like Val di sole.

Anyways, thought it was a great race. Agree that the conditions seemed consistent, albeit sloppy. Glad to see some new faces on the podium (or at least faces we haven't seen there for a while).
