Hamas launched mortars at Israeli troops escorting a United Nations humanitarian aid convoy in the central Gaza Strip earlier today, the military says, publishing footage of the incident

The IDF and COGAT had been coordinating a UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) convoy, part of a mission to reunite children from northern Gaza with their families in the south,

"Despite the IDF's attempts to increase humanitarian aid and activities for Gazan residents, Hamas continues to exploit these efforts and endanger the lives of Gazan civilians,"

I see what you did there... now, if only Hamas would stop ignoring the UN Security Council – along with the readiness of Israel to move forward on a deal – and accept the ceasefire offer on the table then all those massive warehouses set up by Israel filled with food supplies could see their contents distributed to the hungry people in Gaza.

Lost on Core Shot is the reality both of his countries are threatening to nuke their neighbors, not the other way around. Although, I don't think Core Shot would understand it if it came gift wrapped in package marked 'IT'!

Shocking that Hamas won’t give up the only bargaining chip it has to feed people it doesn’t give a fuck about, particularly after dumb shit like this:

    https://apnews.com/article/israel-ha...b836b9a5d4a210

Netanyahu said he was ready to make a partial deal to bring back some of the 120 hostages still held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, but “we are committed to continuing the war after a pause, in order to complete the goal of eliminating Hamas.”

It’s going to continue into Lebanon unless someone can figure out how to dislodge Hezbollah from the border since a 200k Israelis are displaced due to constant missile fire.

I feel worse for Lebanon than Gazans. No one is voting for hezb and none of the politicians they have voted for have been able to bring sanity to the country.

It’s completely fucked and they deserve better than suffering another war that only some extremists want (courtesy of Iran).

Lebanon is a tragedy. That bigass Beirut explosion back in 2020 that killed 218, injured 7k, caused $15B, and destroyed or damaged the homes of 300K?

Thanks Hezbollah! And when I say Hezbollah, I mean Iran.

Fatah spokesman Jon Stewart just knows he's smarter than Tucker Carlson! He's even offered a ridiculously comic "Peace" Plan to install an unwilling unworthy rookie "Unified Arab nations Peacekeeping Force" in Israel, presumably to watch Palestine Iranian rockets fly towards Tel Aviv and stop Israel from retaliating...

But whatever, Jon Stewart has never commented on 10/7, and remains steadfast in his position that Israel has to do whatever it takes to accommodate whatever anyone calling himself "Palestinian" might want at any particular time, or just disband and all move to Warsaw, or something.

His very first statement of it on his comedy show, he called it a “horrific massacre and hostage taking.”

    Link?

Because if he said that, he very shortly went on to minimize Palestinian culpability. And it hasn't changed his reflexive Pollyannish "America Bad!!" suppositions and inability to blame a Palestinian for a fucking thing, a mindset he held long before 10/7*.

It'd be better if he just made a career on "Biden Old!!" for the next 4.5 years.

*And which he has attributed to other's negative suppositions about his America-tude for being a Jew, something he may have picked up on while matriculating at The College of William and Mary, or maybe some other place with a Skull&Bones chapter...

Transcript says 1:38, but y'all are right, I somehow missed a sentence fragment where he says a brutal bombing campaign was brought on by a horrific massacre and kidnapping, but then goes on to declare that Palestinian liberation is an idea and that bombs are not good against ideas.

One is left to presume rape massacre rockets kidnapping human shields are more appropriate weapons against the idea of music festivals in his philosophy...

The bigger problem with Jon Stewart's bit is the notion all the conflicts in the Middle East result from badly drawn maps. As funny as he is, a person only needs rudimentary knowledge of the region's geography, ethnicities, and religions to know there's no magic map capable of partitioning all the Sunnis, Shiites, Jews, Christians, the Bahá'í, Yarsani, Yazidi, and so on, so that no wars would breakout. Not to mention dividing all the oil and limited water in an arid region so there's no resource conflict either. Creating more countries would mean more border wars, fewer countries more civil war. It's impossible (shout out Kenneth Arrow).

Even if the Europeans stayed out of it, that probably would have only made things worse. That's what they did in the Balkans and today we have a word for it: Balkanization. Fundamentally, borders are an unnatural man-made thing. Our modern fixation on the Middle East disguises the reality similar things either happened—in the past, are happening now, or will happen in the future—everywhere.

Like the founding of Israel, the Partition of India also took place in 1947. Two independent countries in South Asia were created: India and Pakistan. Since then Pakistan both started and endured a number of wars, both inflicting and suffering a lot of death and destruction. If a person said I don't mind Pakistanis but I think Pakistan should be destroyed, their country doesn't have a right to exist, we should get rid of it, most people would reasonably think that person does in fact have a problem with Pakistanis. And yet there are people here saying things like "Judaism is not the same as Zionism," or "I don't mind Jews but Zionists are a problem."

It is true though that the way the British has the maps drawn created problems, just as they have the land to Jews to create Israel.

I understand the guilt felt by Europe after the Holocaust, but this created a new set of problems, pretty much untractable.

Just venting, neither here nor there, it's just that i don't see a long term solution.

And what happened in the former Yugoslavia is the result of uk and Europe, deciding to split the austro Hungarian empire to punish them.

Yugoslavia was formed of many populations, that hated each other.

The continuous unbroken presence of Jews in Israel predates the Holocaust by thousands of years. The problem with Rod's, and people like him, anti-Zionism is it perpetuates violence rooted in identity. It creates ideologies and policies that ultimately inflame conflicts. Ideological cynicism is what happened in the Balkans, resulting in a century of fighting. The same thing is happening with Palestinians. Ideological cynicism on the part Israel's enemies, namely Iran today, militarizes Hamas & Hezbollah which precludes peaceful resolution.

the METO solution was discussed when the war broke out.

The UN had (and still has?) peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. they failed to prevent rocket fire and militant activity like the kidnappings that incited the 2006 war.

So I guess the questions remain
    - will the saudis et al use force to keep the peace
    - if things break out will they stay present or turn tail
    - if they are corrupt like in Haiti what happens?

any peacekeeping would have to be combined with some sort of govt that could also give enough Palestinians hope outside of the large minority that put hamas in power before they pulled the rug out of any future elections.

It’s still a complicated problem that needs a political solution and it can’t be understated either how bad Fatah is and how deeply unpopular they are.

US, Canada, Russia, etc, urging citizens to leave Lebanon….

    it really sucks.
