    RIP Diane Feinstein

She became a hero of mine when she took on CIA and the torture establishment.
It's too bad she kept her seat a little too long.
Her bio is worth a look, even if you didn't like her politics.

I liked when she flew a confederate flag outside city hall in 1984. It made a lot of sense.

She didn't fly it. It was a little more complicated then that.

I heard the news just boosted contributions to her re-election campaign.

Well shit. I had no idea. But in her defense it’s more complicated. Kinda like her succeeding Harvey milk.

Gibo beat me to it. Sorry man. But yeah we all agree it’s complicated. It’s not like Biden or Hillary singing praises of a kkk grand wizard.

Maybe we should have a dedicated RIP thread where all you geriatrics can go and immortalize your peers? It's getting frequent now.

While Feinstein certainly hung on too long--the tragedy of dementia is that one cannot know one has it--experience in politics is greatly undervalued. It is a profession like any other and our fondness for electing Washington outsiders--whether governors, half-term Senators, or reality show actors--has not served us well.

Addiction to power? A politician without it is like an actor not addicted to attention or a priest not addicted to god--unlikely to be any good at their job. The greatest American President--greatest in the sense of having the most influence on our lives today whether you agree with his policies or not--served 3 terms and part of a 4th. While he declined to run for a second full term the President who signed two of the greatest--perhaps THE greatest--laws in our history--the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts (not necessarily happily) was certainly addicted to power. OTOH his predecessor, an inexperienced young Senator, began his term with the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion, which a more experienced leader might have quashed.

Do we have 1 or 2?

    Word.

Sadly, she was not of sound mind and should have stepped away (long ago) as she could not serve her constituents. But, as mentioned above, she was 'handled.'

Weekend at Diane's. She probably will get re-elected if they put her name on the ballot.
