Stroke Class of 2023
Woke up this morning with no peripheral vision in my left eye. Decent headache to go along with it.
Got dressed and drove to work, which was a bitch not being able to see to the side.
Once at work I figured I’d better get looked at. Had my wife drive me to the insta care, they told me I might have had a stroke and to go to the ER.
Now I’m in a hospital bed with all kinds of shit hooked to me. MRI, EKG, and ultrasound so far.
Apparently I have blockages in my carotid arteries. They have me on cholesterol meds and a blood thinner shot to my stomach (which sucked).
Looks like a new diet is in my future.

Hopefully caught in time to forestall further damage. 5 or 6 years ago my wife went in curious about a rushing noise in her ears - major scanning ensued, diagnosis of significant plaque build up in her carotids. Under control now with meds, but still damn scary.

Carotid arteries seem kinda important.
Get well soon.

+++++VIBES++++ sent your way. I'm hoping that this is merely a temporary ailment and that you will be back to doing everything that you love in short order.

Bummer Bob. Hopefully the care will straighten things out.
I've been in an analogous boat since I was 9: migraines where I lose vision. Been through the ringer trying to diagnose it, no luck yet. Weird exercise induced hypertension too.
I've been high cholesterol for a few years now as well. Tried a diet over the last 6 months of no meat, no alcohol during the week, some cheese, but vegan aside from that. Fucking ldl is at 205 now. I've got a scan queued up and likely will have to drop my avoidance of statins and my claim to "the only drugs I use are recreational".
It's a drag. I hope you've got a posse of friends around you; you deserve that at least.Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski

Read E this and she said it sounded eerily like my TIA at 35. Lost a lot of sight in my left eye and went to get it checked at the doctors office. Then had an EKG and some test into my eye where they shot dye in there to see what’s going on.
That’s when I got told I had a TIA.
I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Still here, hopefully I can go home soon. I do have a nice room with quite a view. 14th floor view of the Wasatch.
Doctor gave me pics from the MRI and ultrasound from yesterday.
MRI of my brain, pointing at the area of the stroke.
Ultrasound of my neck and carotid arteries. Right side is constricted and left is completely blocked and doesn’t show up.
The nursing crew here is fantastic, taking good care of me. But, I still want to get the fuck out of here.
My wife and oldest son came up tonight and Tgapp and partner stopped by to give moral support. (Thanks)

So are cholesterol meds the game plan for the neck blockage or they getting down and dirty and go in in the near future?

Wishing you the best. When I turned 65 went for a physical. Blood work had cholesterol very high. Got prescribed a statin. Been taking them for about 10 months now. Guess I should get checked to see if they are helping. Visited a friend in a nursing home yesterday. 70 years old. Been there for two years already will probably never walk out. This getting old sucks. Good on you for talking about this. Brings a reality to people like me who thinks it will go away if I ignore it.

Well fuck if I had known that Bob already started a stroke stoke thread I would have grabbed a picture of him in his posh penthouse last night. Dude's got a $50k view of the wasatch, lots of hot nurses, and he's only two rooms away from the painkiller palace.
In all sincerity man, keep your head up and get your ass outta there today if you can. Thanks for letting me crash your dogs & let's get out on the river as soon as you're back from your cruise.

Best of luck.
