Is there a new Barryvox S (Sept 2023)
I just received an email with a link that's marked "Barryvox S2" and when I go to the Mammut website it says "The new Barryvox® S has a large receiving bandwidth and an effective search strip width of 70 meters." Some of the marketing copy sounds like it has some new features but I'm not sure if that's just marketing talk for the things I'm already familiar with.
This PDF looks like a new homologation test was performed in 2022 which would be after the Barryvox S that I carry was released and maybe in the right time frame for something released for this season although I would think it would be dated earlier this year rather than last summer.

Can anyone clarify? This might be a good reason to buy a new one and pass my current Barryvox S to my wife to replace her current BD beacon.

Interesting!
I've emailed my Mammut contact, who is really good on technical details, and ... he's no longer at Mammut.
So I used the website contact form. I'll let you know if I hear anything.Mo' skimo here: NE Rando Race Series

There is an S2 being developed, I did some testing with it last winter - but hearing it won't be released this year, potentially next fall.
Drive slow, homie.

I heard back almost immediately from Mammut.
On the difference between the Barryvox vs the Barryvox S.
Which was not the question I asked.
So I provided further clarification on my question.
Have not heard back.
Makes me miss my contact there, sigh, he was great...Mo' skimo here: NE Rando Race Series

I just now received a more informed reply from Mammut, which essentially confirms the post by Z.

Thank you for digging in and following up with Mammut for answers. It will be interesting to see what shows up next year.

I played with them, did some dryland single target searches.
It won't be released to 2024. I put hands on.
Biggest changes:
Thinner
Lighter
Bluetooth for firmware updates
Bluetooth for buried target beacon control send-on/off in training mode (make your own beacon park) and the beacon uses the respiration motion "pulse" sensor to detect probe strikes and tell the evaluator's phone!
S2 has a higher resolution and higher contrast screen
New arrows
S2 loses "100m range+ audio only mode" while still having 70m+ range gaining
S2 easier UI for things like Pro group check or switching back from rescue send to send.
Learning curve for previous Barryvox users will be tiny.
Any other questions?
I could post more pics/vids if you want. My information is not embargoed.Originally Posted by blurred

I got my hands on these last week as well but I don't have anything to add that Summit didn't already mention. My impression is that it is a welcome upgrade to an already good transceiver that will be comfortable for current users to switch to.

It has a scan mode to show distances on multiple burials (new Pieps has this feature too)

"the beacon uses the respiration motion "pulse" sensor to detect probe strikes and tell the evaluator's phone!"
Can someone unpack this for me? What does this mean?
