Wash your hands. A lot. And keep them out of your god damned mouth and nose.
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
Cletus: Duly noted.

Sleep, balanced diet, easy on the drinking. No need for vits and minerals if eating a balanced diet. As many have already said. No need for gimmicks.

How to improve my immune system?
The risk/reward of a multivitamin 2 times a week makes it make sense to me.
Re: the above discussion about placebo effect and homeopathy- there isn’t really anything to research about homeopathy - if you understand what homeopathy is and you still think it might work and therefore you get some amount of placebo benefit from it you have bigger issues than worrying about your immune system - you might want to examine all your beliefs about how the human body works.

Re the placebo effect--there was a study (I can't recall what condition was being looked at) that showed the placebo effect worked even when people were told they were getting a placebo.

How to improve my immune system?
Yeah Huberman mentioned that on a recent podcast.
If taking a homeopathic glass of water with a substance diluted to 1 part in a zillion would give me benefit even though I think it’s total baloney…well why would I spend money on any homeopathic product?
I could just put one grain of sugar in a big glass of water, call it homeopathy, and then gain some sort of nebulous benefit - I guess whatever benefit I choose in advance?

I recall having to do my own homework.
That must not be a thing any more.
Go figure.
I will second Mr Cruiser recommendation of hand washing and add that you need to eat 37 raw garlic cloves each day.watch out for snakes

And learn to enjoy it. That was a big thing for me. Just mentally turning the corner and realizing that feeling good and being health was more important to me that any pleasure I got from the shitty habits and choices.
Honestly, that is what i observe in my circle. Some people make the choice to prioritize health and fitness and others, sometimes subconsciously I'm thinking, double down on the happy hours, sport eating and sedentary entertainment.
Its not easy, but it isn't complicated.

Yep. As long as the thing isnt harmful, and you truly believe it works, odds are high you will see some benefit from it. The mind has a crazy powerful effect on your physiology. Especially when we talk about subjective symptom relief- like pain reduction or how severe you perceive your cold/flu symptoms to be.

This is the key point:
"Kaptchuk says placebos won’t work for every medical situation—for example, they can’t lower cholesterol or cure cancer. But they can work for conditions that are defined by “self-observation” symptoms like pain, nausea, or fatigue."
Immune system function would seem to fall in the former category. Even those "self-observation" conditions don't justify giving your money to jackasses selling useless homeopathic treatments. Also, there is the "nocebo" effect to consider. In clinical trials it's common for people in the placebo arm to report experiencing the potential side effects of the drug that they are not actually taking.
In the long run, it's almost always harder to do the "easy" thing. But, if you do the "hard" thing long enough it becomes a habit and no longer requires the same degree of conscious effort.

The immune system can be considered "self observational" in the sense that people can say they get fewer colds (without actually counting them) or their colds aren't as bad since they started taking Omniscamium--which is the context we seem to be talking about in this thread. In the context of whether you die of Pneumocystis because your T cells don't work, yeah, placebos probably aren't much good.

Thank you for this timely thread, twat - there is a lot of Good information in the posts already here, a few of my favorites cited below vvv
I am weighing in to add, Vaccination. 'training your immune system" is Exactly what Vaccination is intended to Do ! !!
IF you are Under ten years of age, or over Sixty years of age, maintaining current Vaccinations may be the additional step one can take to "train your immune system" > Influenza, covid, shingles, pnuemococcus, (tetanus) ;
I grieve the resistance to childhood vaccination ( I recently learned that an acquaintance from years ago, had survived polio in her youth. I never knew... )

This is very important observation - for those who have Not maintained good dental health, it creates a Very Real Risk for lots of infectious disease ! !!
ditto. ^^^
a couple of posts promoted hydration -
I am not sure it is an immune system mechanism, but I certainly believe Good hydration is very important to good health.
also, we'll see where this next 'wave' of covid goes, but seeing the dramatic decrease in Influenza in 2021, as people were still masking in public, I will not dismiss the value of masking If you are in an area experiencing an outbreak of Influenza -
I do business in two businesses where the shopkeepers continue to mask due to immunocompromised family members ( I believe both involve cancer treatment protocols ) ; I do not go into those businesses unmasked - Just as a matter of courtesy.
and If you re over sixty, and want to "train your immune system", Vaccination has merit.
Good luck. skiJLast edited by skiJ; 09-22-2023 at 11:41 AM.

Yes this thread made me think
What can be achieved and how much my Immunsystems is genetically given.
ok professional vaccination is important for serious diseases.
I am often spending a week dealing with small stuff. Tonsillitis, sinus infection, norovirus etc.
Training - licking doorknob
Hermit - avoiding doorknobs
Snorting coke on toilets used to be a thing but those times gone. Luckily.
Maybe as a baby my environment was too clean??? I could blame my mother for this?
But as a 40year old what can I do?
I am observing now how much I hooger booger per day :?)
The extra vitamin pill could be a placebo too.
The vitamin d complex is I guess not my problem as I spent lot of time outdoors.
Cheers for all the input. Still looking for a really hot poo donor.

Your body’s systems/functions work best when you are properly hydrated - so yes hydration is important for proper immune function. Something we need to be on top of especially during hot dry summers, at higher elevations, if you live where it’s dry in the winter, if your workplace has low humidity etc.
