Nope, SEA->AMS, then AMS->ZRH with hopes that customs at Schippol is reasonable.

    That's kind of an understatement?
Have you been through AMS before? My only overseas experience is LHR and I almost didn't make my flight, my skis missed it, in 1:10.

I good flight gives me 1:20 to get through AMS; is that enough time?

K2 - I went through AMS last time and it wasn't bad really. Just head straight to customs tho.
While in line, some employees will walk around and ask out loud if you have a flight connection really soon. They'll pull you out to go to the front of the line.
It's pretty slick, efficient and peeps are stoked when they're beginning to wig out.

Thanks. My luck last year was the flight was 25 min late, and half the people on the flight had a connector to catch too
I may just take a less convenient flight and sit around AMS for 3 hours, and hope that gives them time to get my ski bag transferred

Another thing I forgot to mention, phone calls. I set everything up before I left, calls still wouldn't go through. Comcast (Verizon) had to change some settings on their end. 4 more calls to Comcast and a day later they had me do more setting changes on my phone. After all that, dialing the right prefix became the issue. I think 01 or 00, or was it +. Shit I should have recorded that somewhere

One of my favorite tours ever took me down that exact same, constantly rolling over, super fun west face in perfect corn. We then skated across the reservoir to the valley in the center of your photo, skinned up that past the CdM hut, and summited the Rossbodenstock before skiing that for ~5k vert of even better corn right back to Andermatt. 10/10, 5 stars, would recommend.

FYI to anyone going: touring Piz Mahler, Operalppass via train, and out of Hostpental can net you some absolutely incredible skiing w/out ever buying a lift ticket (other than what the farmers charge for the Piz Mahler bump).

I was ready to purchase my flight on Delta, until I read about checked bags over 62". Just got through chatting with a Delta baggage rep, she said any bag over 62" gets a $300 over sized fee?! WTF?

Ski equipment is usually treated differently than regular checked baggage when it comes to length.

Find the applicable verbiage on the carrier's website, bring it with you to check in, be early, smile and be pleasant, cross your fingers. Don't trust some call center rep with no accountabilty.

    From Delta's website

Ski and snowboard equipment are allowed as checked baggage. One item of Ski or Snowboard Equipment per person is defined as:

    One ski/pole bag
    One snowboard bag
One boot bag is accepted per person
The combined weight of both items (ski/snowboard bag and the boot bag) may not exceed the standard baggage allowance specific to the cabin or excess weight charges will apply.

Standard baggage allowance and fees based on cabin and travel region apply
If the combined weight of ski/snowboard bags and boot bag weighs over 50 lbs, the applicable excess weight fee will be charged
If the outside linear dimensions (length + width + height) exceed 115 linear inches (292 cm), the item will not be accepted
Items in excess of baggage allowance will be subject to additional or overweight baggage fees

Yup, over sized ski bags on every other airline I've looked at are no extra charge, some include 2 bags with no extra charge for ski equipment

Same thing I told Danno, if it makes you feel better, go for it. But when you go to check in, telling the human in front of your face what "Steve" told you on the phone isn't gonna have any bearing on anything.

Pretty sure chat is wrong. Delta has an online “calculator” where you input all variables and it’ll tell you the baggage fee. I tested it with SLC-ZRH, no status, no card, selected ski bag and it spit out “free.” Super frustrating though because what if you show up to the counter and the ticket agent is the one who doesn’t know the rules.

You follow Foggy's advice and take the rules with you... If you're that concerned.

Just got off the phone with Delta, yes "chat" lady was wrong.
Skis, sports equipment is exempt from the 62" max length of standard checked bags

I also found other sports luggage info on their site that supported no extra fee for skis, under 115" total inches and max length of 80"

Done, booked! Arrive in Rueras on the 2nd, out on the 10th

Gawd I hate stoopid people. That chat lady gave me 2 hours of grief

At $700 rt flight SEA<->ZRH, $110/day room and board and optional $80 lift ticket, you can't afford not to blow your mind. You can even leave your camper here again.

Dude - $110 full board is probably cheaper than you can provide food for yourself at home.
