I still can’t wrap my head around how it managed to actually slice off half of the gondola and not rip the whole fucking thing off the line.

Ugh. Dude moving a drill rig any distance with its mast up.... WTF. I worked around geotech drill rigs for 30 years, just inconceivable someone would do that. Maybe a couple of times (ever) I've had the boys move a rig a few metres on flat ground while mast is up because we hit something weird near the surface. Tragic preventable accident.

While we have yet to get very much info, moving construction equipment under an operating lift and apparently without a swamper/ground man is very dangerous and should not have been attempted. Why is a lift even running anywhere near active construction equipment?

Jesus. Sounds like a nice day that became a living nighmare. Vibes to the survivor and their family. Seems like the construction crew was trying to work fast and not smart. Amateur hour. I wonder if the 30 y o worker had orders to get it done or made the call on his own...

Not amazed at all that police and workplace safety investigators aren't shooting their mouths off in the middle of their investigation. Even less surprised that the companies and individuals involved are keeping their mouths shut on the advice of their lawyers.
Hopefully we won't have to wait as long to find out what happened as after the collapse of a tower crane in Kelowna killed 5 people (4 working to dismantle it and one office worker hit by the debris). Now two years and counting - the worksafe BC investigation is complete but they won't release it because the RCMP investigation isn't.

I don't need an investigation to know that running a lift involving the public in a construction zone is completely unacceptable.

“About one week later, a Quebec labour board inspector banned the movement of construction equipment on the site because the risk was too high that another collision would occur.”
Let’s not be hasty and stop construction the same day they murder someone. Give it a week to see if they learned anything from their mistake.
