    Sharks, man

Anyone else feel like the dial has been turned up this summer on the sharks and shark content? I get that warmer water brings the baitfish in which brings the sharks in, which brings the idiots closer which brings the news stories in, but it does seem like there's a noticeable jump in shark encounters.

Here's a big boy looking for a snack in Florida yesterday.

I subscribe to the theory that if you grab a spoonful of water and it tastes salty then there's probably shark around so maybe this is all just hype. Either way, if it brings us the Jaws prequel that focuses on Quint's origin story then I'm all in.

I still call it The Jake.

Looks like a hammerhead is chasing rays around.

It's a Downstate thing too this year again, apparently the little great whites like the south shore of LI.

I know it's also Orca hot girl summer but it appears they too have beef with the shark.

The cape continues to ratchet it up, but the sighting increases are legit. Water temps and return of the seal population have led to growing shark encounters. When I see this

Apparently, Spielberg said that when he first read the book he was rooting for the shark, because the human characters were so unlikeable.

Perhaps it's the optimist in me, but perhaps it may also have to do with regulations and improvements in the fishing industry over the decades? Chinese shark fin a-holes excluded of course. It's taken a while, but perhaps we're now finally getting a solid bounce back in their populations. Whales are also seeing a nice resurgence, also thanks to the international community cracking down on that.

I would bet it's the opposite; sharks pushed to broader hunting areas because of scarcity.

They still use an airhorn to clear the beach, but that would be so much more effective

    Quint is absolutely likeable.

Hooper was a snarky know it all and Sheriff Brody was incompetent.

The girl who got eaten at the beginning seemed nice enough but a bit of a loose drunk.
