Draft is over. Free agency begins today.
New season, new thread.

Now we're talking. I've never gotten excited about the draft. Very few NHL players end up peaking with the organization where they were drafted.. or at least that's the impression I've had forever.

Vegas already bleeding goalies, and traded Reilly Smith, but they extended Hill, and Barbashev, so hopefully those guys are the real deal.
Too much other stuff happening too fast to really wrap my head around. Guess we will find out who won the day in October.

I need three new managers for my Yahoo fantasy league. Please jump in if you would like to play.

Babcock booted from Blue Jackets. Who the hell thought hiring that goof was a good idea? The guy is poison to any team that would hire him.

Someone will.
If you don't follow hockey in the off season you start watching and it's the same old faces--players and coaches--just everyone on different teams. Takes a good part of the season to get reoriented.

So Brad Marchand is now the 27th Captain of the Bruins.
I think he deserves it even if I can't stand him save for when he plays for Canada.

Marchand is a rat.
Just wanted to be first to make that post this season.

Damn it, beat me to it.
My son is playing youth hockey and was talking about someone doing a slew foot but the way he explained it it was more like tripping.
So I pulled up a random YouTube video on slew footing and of course the first several minutes were Brad Marchand absolutely destroying people.
fucking rat.

Just popped on a couple tickets to go see Le Hockey at the local pond while the kid is back for Christmas Break. Cheap seats but we just enjoy being in the building.

What's the best reliable streaming subscription to watch hockey every night?
Every year I say I'm going to pony up but never do. Well this year is different...

NHL 2023 Season
Now it’s just on ESPN+ if the team you want to watch is out of your market.
If you want to watch in-market then who knows. That’s when it’s a bitch.

VGK tkts sure got expensive--no surprise. I was looking at the Av's game--fortunately the date doesn't work for my kid. The Sharks game we're going to is a little better.

Nice to see Vegas bucking the blackout trend. This is key to winning new fans, imho.

I've never watched a preseason game before. What's the deal with hitting, unwritten rule to take it easy? VGK-Avs I think I saw exactly one hit, Cotter in the 3rd, and the guy he hit took offense, maybe because his head hit the glass. Other than that it looked like a regular hockey game--every seat taken, all the PA bullshit Vegas leads the league in.

The hits get less as training camp moves on. The way it starts, you get a bunch of guys looking for their cup of coffee in the NHL so they go out there and let the big hits fly, and get the fists out. Then, as those donkeys are trimmed off the rosters you're left with more actual pros who know they're on the team already, and are thinking about their careers and performance over the next 7-9 months and they know there's zero fucking reason to actually try during preseason games, let alone risk getting hurt.
Big hits are mostly a playoff thing now anyway.

The new NHL site sure blows.
They've dumbed down the available news even more.
Can't even find current news like roster cuts for my team.
At least it loads faster than the old version

God I love MAF. Hope we can get him back to retire as a Pen.
