Didn’t even think of that. Makes sense.

Kind of lame though to have a patsy franchise just for all the other fans.

Eh, they’re just as good as all the Canadian poverty franchises. The Yotes games are pretty fun right now cause they are played at ASU’s hockey stadium so every seat is within like ten rows.

I'll probably get flamed for this, fuck it. Awarding points for tying and then losing a game in OT is fucking stupid. See NYI, who have 14 pts for losing games. That is bullshit. They're 5 wins behind the Devils yet tied in the standings.

Also see the Bruins sitting atop the Atlantic division with 3 less wins than the second place Panthers.

If anything, there should been an extra point awarded to the winning team in OT. Loser should get zilch.

It does suck for those 4 teams that don’t make the post season, but you know what? They suck.

Believe me, Islander fans are not happy with those 14 points either. Most were multi goal blown leads in the 3rd (no excuses)

But the 3v3 OT followed by a shootout, while exciting and guaranteed to be brief, is a bit of a bullshit way to determine the winner of a 5v5 hockey match.

But it is certainly more efficient and safe vs possibly very long 5v5 sudden death OT.

Imperfect solution to a real issue, it may or may not last.

2 points for win in reg or OT, 1 point for each team if still tied. No shootout. Shootouts are dum.

I like the shootouts. I’d like to see three for a regular time win, two for an OT win, one for an OT loss.

I never had a problem with this system. People complained teams would play safe to avoid losing the tie point. Wonder how that would go under the current playoff structure along with league parity? They could keep OT 3 on 3 and that would still drive some excitement, and end a lot more games with a winner.

In theory. But playing to not lose is a good way to lose. Ask the 49ers.

Speaking of OT, the Bruins are in their fifth straight overtime right now. 5 in a row. First time in 92 years apparently

My wife used to get so mad about OT points especially when the Blackhawks used to rack them up. It's not a perfect solution but I enjoy the 3v3 and shootouts. Just don't get me started on franchises changing cities and acting like it's the same team. Nordique wearing avalanche fans I'm looking at you...but we can't all be original 6.

Oh and that fight in the flames/Edmonton game the other night was one of the better fights I've seen in awhile.

Also looking forward to the P. Kane tribute today.

Chelios was my favorite defenseman growing up and always wore #7 playing when I was young. He had quite the turnout of hockey greats tonight. Even if the hawks suck this year that was a fun game. Kinda fitting having Kaner rip the OT winner upper deck.

Great player but unfortunately my one Chelios memory is him breaking his stick on a slap shot from the point leading to a breakaway goal that cost the Wings a Cup. Or at least that's how I remember it.

Ha. Quite a few people got really upset when he went to Detroit, but I honestly respected his desire to keep playing and Chicago wouldn't keep him around. Kinda like Kane, he wouldve stayed in Chicago if they could've afforded to keep him. I understand it's a business but Chicago has a bad track record of letting some of their legends not retire in Chicago.

    So...thoughts on the trade deadline?

Flames are getting skewered for the Hanifin trade. And conditions sound goofy... 2025 1st unless Vegas trades it, then it becomes 2026 1st. And 2025 3rd unless Vegas wins a round, which seems likely - then it becomes a 2nd. And prospect with minimal NHL games who says he will become one of the top D men in the league. OK. I have some faith in scouting since Sharangovich turned out pretty good since last year's Toffoli trade. The thing a lot of people miss by focusing on the trades themselves is Flames have opened up a ton of cap room by making deals they have. So they could be big players come free agent time. Also if pick slides to 2026 there is apparently a generational player the could have 3 shots at along with another conditional pick that may end up 2026 that would not be top 10 protected in '26.

There were a few interesting trades like Mittlestadt for Byram, Beauvillier for a 5th, and Dumba + 7th for a 5th. Or Hertl + two 3rds for Edstrom + 1st. I know contracts and cap play in but it seems like low prices for some of those guys.

Wings looking very undisciplined the last two times I saw them on TV--Panthers and Avs. That reflects badly on the coach. In a wild card spot but probably not for long. No significant trades but it's the coach they need to trade

Vegas went big again. Excited to see Hertl play once he's healthy

I need to know who the announcers are for this Devils-Leafs game. I think it may be Steve Levy but don't know who the chick is.

Complete dipshits, the both of em.

Female announcer... "...the forwards getting sucked off on the right side of the ice."

First period ends 2-1 Devils... Steve?- "I can't believe we're scoreless after one!" Ummm what?!

Then proceeds to ask Luke Hughes during intermission interview, "You gonna buy a lottery ticket? You get outplayed like that in a first period and you’re still winning this hockey game. What’s that like?" Fucking clown

Wild pull their goalie in OT again, but this time Vegas burries on in the empty net. 0 points for MN.
