    Thule box locks

Thule is being a cunt and refuses to sell replacement locks. Not the cores, the whole locks. Does anyone have a source for replacement locks?

Those are just the cores. I emailed rack attack and Thule a while ago. They told me all riveted parts and considered permanent and non replaceable.

I'm interested as to why you need complete replacements?

Bunch of videos on youtube on how to remove the core and replace it. Seized and all.

This explains the robust corrosion resistance and long life of these cores.

Back in the day I bought a 4-runer with one of the old double walled boxes and buddy had lost the key so I took the box to the lock smith to have a new key cut which is where i learned they had the same lock core as a Fiat

IME if you don't lube the locks and every threaded fastener on your Thule or Yakima once a year they will seize up

i don't really think there is enough call to replace individual riveted parts

Thule locks are a joke. They're barely a deterrent. I sold the shit back in the day and I had to open returned stuff without a key.

2 weeks into a owning a Thule roof box and sadly I finding out they do suck. I know I'm going to need de-icer or 99% alcohol spray because getting the key in seems to be chore already but that only one side of the box. The other seems ok for now. Fingers crossed.

What age fiat are we talking? I’ve been trying to find bulk wafers for these cores for a while and nobody can point me to them/the ones I’ve ordered have been the wrong type .

I end up having to cannibalize them from other lock cores.

this was 1997 i bought a 4-runer with box / no key, one of the double wall boxes,

I took the whole box to the locksmith who said it was same as a Fiat key and every thule key I have seen is the same,

I no longer have a thule box but the key for the back hatch on my Cap-it canopy looks very similar and the key sez Bauer products if that is any help, so maybe you wana be looking at canopy locks?

Old fiat is probably all I need.

I like to rekey cores so I don’t have to keep multiple keys. Can make Thule, rockymounts, etc. cores unlock with my Yakima key as they all have the same keyway and wafers.

I think the Thules have one more wafer, so you just leave the last one out. But I haven’t been able to source the wafers, so I have to buy used Yakima cores and strip them for parts.
