That Ghost Jet Thing
So they scrambled F16s to intercept a private jet over the DC area. Pilot was unresponsive. Jet crashed. Wild conjecture that they might have brought it down someplace unpopulated to prevent more deaths?
Is that the plan whenever this happens, follow and take down over a remote area if there's no other way to avoid it possibly going down someplace more populated?
If it's headed out to sea then they probably just follow it there and document where it finally runs out of fuel.
I remember the Payne Stewert jet and the video the interceptor had of the passed out pilot at the controls.Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

Terrible situation and I'm sorry for those who lost loved ones, BUT my mind with its dark sense of humor of course has to stray. As soon as I heard it was a private jet (Cessna Citation) so likely a wealthy family and there was no response from the cockpit, I couldn't help but wander if they turned on the autopilot and walked away to hang out in the back like that RV cruise control scene in the Darwin Awards. Freaking hilarious movie if you haven't seen it before. See:

One thing that supposedly hampered the location of the wreckage initially was lack of post-crash fire. Quite possible it was single-pilot, hypoxia set in, incapacitated all onboard, plane flew until it ran out of gas. That report would correlate with lack of fire.

That Ghost Jet Thing
a Reddit thread on this incident had some interesting discussion about new tech on fancy private planes that can detect and auto land the plane in a situation such as this - sorry don’t have the link to it
