I had the same question last week, and worked it out that MO's recommendations use straight tape measurement. He gave me from the tail measurements and from center measurements, so I calculated the center of the ski using both straight pull and follow the material methods. Then measured back from center, which was the same as his from tail if I used straight tape.
The older I get, the faster I was.

    Punch it, Chewie.

    Damn he seems cool.

Soft Snow Gymkhana - The Heritage Lab FR110

    Gaijin,

I’m mounted -5.8cm on the 180 FR110 based on straight tape pull (179.60 straight / 2 = 89.8 - 84 from tail = -5.8). At first I thought I was a bit too far forward but now I absolutely love them there as it’s full on video game time!

For the R110 I think a bit further back than the FR110….I also think -7.5cm would be perfect for you.

I’m -6.75cm on my R120’s. But I also like pretty forward mounts and have a short bsl.

These skis are life changing. Just like the original Rens were years ago.

Yup. Probably my first “cold dead hands” ski. Never thought I’d have one

How do you feel the 120 compares to the 110? Sounds like it’s a little stiffer which makes it more business? I like my pow skis more playful than my daily, so thinking maybe the HB122 is a better fit than the 120, or maybe a Jeff118

I will have a comparison of those this season. Just haven’t been on my 191 Jeff.

Also, I'm in a 25 Lange RS 130, not super jibby, more of an on/off drifty/GS arcing fool. My plan is go with MO's recommended mount point but any second thoughts for me on my 187 R110? FKS155 for the first time after 45 years on salomon... because pivot-curious. Am I over-thinking any change in ramp angle? I also have an SBX15 but thinking that would better serve an RC85.

I've never veered from manufacturer's recommended, but have owned demo bindings and immediately recognize 1cm forward is no-bueno... too turny... would only move the binding forward on firm snow in flat light. And that's not this ski's purpose.

I always freak out when mounting new skis because I'm an overly sensitive teenage girl when it comes to subtle nuances in boots, feel, even poles, wax, and bevels.
I don't have enough experience to confirm this but my hunch suggests to me that less binding ramp is better suited to slightly forward mounts.

So I would say somewhere between on the line and +1cm with pivots vs Sally.

    YMMV

Ya I think it’ll be a tough market to find used HL skis as none of us are going to sell em (I know that statement may be a shock for some of you to hear coming from me).

I haven’t skied the R120 yet. I can see using the R120 if it’s deep and I’m skiing fast in the wide open alpine. The HB122 will be good for soft, deepish days where vis sucks and we’re skiing slower in the trees. And the FR110 for my daily on all other soft days.

So I think you may need both an R120 AND an HB122….

    PS I’m mounted at -6.75 on the R110, -5.8cm on the FR110 and -4.3cm on the HB122.

Also doing a 9 day Powder Highway trip and can’t really see bringing any other skis than the R120, HB122 and FR110 for lift skiing. These three skis will probably get the most use inbounds at WB for me this year.

I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts. Been eyeing those Jeffs in GS.

I agree both would be best. But I’m located in San Diego so versatile travel ski is the name of the game. Maybe r120 for trips to big resorts, hb122 for smaller resorts. Hmm…

    Yes, all morning. Pinned.
These are a great not good ski. And I got the short ones. Super intuitive, like I’ve been skiing them for years. I’m stoked.

Adding some carbon to the fleet...

I opted for Shifts on the 186 BC110. Toes shimmed 4 mm as the AFD goes pretty low with 9523 soles.

3350 grams for the pair i.e. circa 1675 per ski, a few grams lighter than listed.

About a week until I can get them on snow, if conditions allows.

Major fail on day one. Forgot my boots and ended up on flex 100 rental boots. Lame. Plus put a couple of pretty good core shots in em. Oh well. Exhibit 1a what not to do on the ski you been waiting 7 months for.

I got the 181 r110s. I’m 5’9” 150. Spent the last two days on them skiing my real boots. Suck a freaking awesome ski.

Super carvy and fun on the groomers. Big arcs or push them a bit and pop a bit of air between tight turns. Fun! Superb tune by Marshall.

Caught the opener today of a new lift for a couple of 1800 foot pow lines. So easy. Really I think the defining characteristic is any turn shape you want, anytime. Big little fast tight all super easy. The tips really make them want to come to the surface. No issues with float at all. These are my smallest skis by a bit and I was just surfing the pow.

Spent a bunch of time skiing windbuff bumps. My favorite was just ripping carves from the face of one bump to the next then spotting a smooth line between the bumps and going into a drift until I wanted to turn again and hooking up the back of the ski for a surf carve on the next bump face. Pretty addicting and just effortlessly dropping vert through some tricky turns.

I’m in MT and so we can have some long periods of pretty dry conditions. These were pretty sweet on the packed pow/windblown. Pretty sure I will ski them most days unless it is really firm and I want a little more camber/suspension. For sure get rocked a little if I hit a trough wrong in the harder snow. But these things got me looking forward to each run like it’s another opportunity to make magic. I get pretty fired up about skiing no matter what but I love trying to put all types of turns together into a perfect run through tricky stuff and these are kinda the ultimate tool for that! Is it 2moro yet?

I've had dreams where I realize I don't have my boots.

    Not amusing.

Glad you liked the skis though; they rock.

You’re more patient than myself. Last time I forgot something, my jacket, I was like— “Welp, that’s a sign from god that I shouldn’t ski today.” And I just went home.

There is no way I would have been able to muster the strength to ski if I had forgotten my boots. Must be some powerful anticipation from the FR110 spirits.

Had my first softer snow day on thanksgiving this week. Missed the the big pow the day before, but there was still a lot of left over chopped pow, soft groomers and a perfect day to take out the FR110s. I almost took out my Sickles, but upinsmoke reminded me that all skis are rock skis and I am glad he did.

The FR110s is seriously the most intuitive ski I have ever owned. Slash, swerve, grind bumps, pop pow pillows left in between early season willows... just so much fun. Anyone on the fence about this ski needs to get on board asap.

Exactly how I felt on them last year. I shoulda taken mine out on Thanksgiving day this year, but wasn't paying attention to time or conditions. I hit the early morning of Summits opening at Alpine Meadows, and there was 6-8in of wind affected pow. I brought out Wildcat 108s, which worked well enough, but I know FR110s would have absolutely slayed. I get the feeling the FR110s are going to be my go to for those conditions, even over 186 Bodacious/Blackops 118s which rule.

I have to travel for good skiing and have decided to sell everything besides fr110 and a touring ski. Crazy. But don’t worry, I’m replacing them with surfboards

Day one on the R110 and it delivers in fresh & tracked out chonkey pow / low viz. great ski, super stable, quick on edge and lots of turn shape options. I think it could easily operate a a one ski quiver and deliver 95% of the time. Well done again MO.
    Harvest the ride.
