Streaming De La Soul
It’s good to be able to hear them again. I had the cassette of 3 Feet High and Rising, but haven’t had a way to play it for years.
One thing I noticed, on “The Magic Number” they removed the sample from Eddie Murphy where he asks if anyone in the audience has ever been hit by a car, at least on Spotify, I assume from all streaming services?Last edited by zion zig zag; 03-11-2023 at 09:16 AM.

One of the reasons it took so long for their catalog to be available for streaming was all the legal hoo-haa over sample clearances and who would pay for it.
They had to change some songs where they couldn’t get clearance.
Here’s a cool interview with Prince Paul where he addresses a bit of that;

I stand somewhat corrected…while sample clearance was an issue, resulting in some songs being changed, it seems $$$ were also a large factor in why it took so long for their catalog to come to streaming.

I’ve got a cassette somewhere and a player. I’ll compare if I can find it

Also, here’s a Forbes story about why it took so long:

And if you want to listen to a bunch of music critics yammer about De La, there’s this:
