    Steamboat closing weekend question

Does Steamboat typically have beginner terrain open closing weekend? I know it’s a big snow year, but just wondering if typically there is green stuff open for the kids.

    Thanks

Sunshine was spinning closing weekend last year. Was there last year closing weekend with my kids and beginner cousins and they dug that area.

The new 'Wild Blue" gondola has finished Phase I, and it takes you right to the new learning pasture called Greenhorn Ranch. It's over by Bashor Bowl. Plenty of beginner terrain and they put in another chairlift (to replace the old poma) in that area as well. Phase II (next year) will take you from Greenhorn Ranch over to Sunshine Peak. You can get there now currently as mentioned above, but you have to traverse across blue terrain and get down to the lift to take you there.

My guess is, Greenhorn Ranch will likely be open closing weekend as that area of the mountain holds snow better. They usually close Sunshine area prior to closing weekend, depending on conditions. But even if not, the Christie lift will for sure run until the very end, same terrain. Last year they had limited lifts running closing weekend, but it was also a shit year. Time will tell what kind of temps this spring brings.

ETA- BostonJohn, how the heck are ya? HMU if you are around closing weekend!
