Reno-Oakland-SF
Hey all. Looking for some travel advice
The week after next (2/20-24) I have a work trip in califonia.
Flying into Reno on Monday late afternoon, working there all day Tuesday. Staying Tuesday night also.
Weds AM drive to east bay, for a few patients in either Antioch or Walnut Creek. Prob stay in Oakland on weds night
Thursday all day Oakland.
Drive to SF, stay the night. A few SF patients in the morning, fly home that afternoon
A fkn whirlwind.
What is there not to miss? Hotels (2 nights Reno, 1 Oakland, 1 SF)? Food? Beers? Music? Art? More food?
Lay your wisdom on me.

Don't leave anything in your rental car. Anything.

If I was looking for good beer in The City, no trip would be complete without a trip to the Tornado. World class beer selection, cash only. Bartenders can be cranky at first with newbies, order a good beer and you'll be fine.

I really liked State Bird Provisions last time I was in SF, if you wanted something excellent but not outrageously expensive.

Wed AM drop in at the Donner Lake Kitchen in Truckee for breakfast on your way from Reno to Oakland.

Only a bit outta the way, but as you're driving through Sac, Spinners has the best Cinnamon Rolls I've ever had.

No trip to Sac would be complete without a visit to the Hilltop tavern

Take 431 up from Reno to Incline Village on your way to Oakland. Stop in Incline Village and get a burrito at T's. https://www.tsrotisserie.com
Enjoy Tahoe air for a moment. It's breathtaking.

The Roots are playing at the Masonic in SF on 2/23. Nice venue.
Beer: Fieldwork in Berkeley or Faction in Alameda (fantastic view across Bay of SF from Faction). Will second Toronado in SF for taps. https://www.toronado.com
(Full disclosure: I have been there a lot but got stabbed around the corner from there in 1988 when the Lower Haight was becoming popular. It’s fine. Just be smart.)
Get a martini at the bar at Zam Zam. https://www.sfheritage.org/heritage-...hoods/zam-zam/Not far from UCSF

Whoa, casual conversation bomb right there. Yeh, that hood was pretty sketch back in those days.
Went to Zam Zam back then, too. I think Bruno liked me.

Drinks and beer were better in Oakland IMO and Toronado always had a weird arrogant vibe to it. The taplist was always solid, it was just the people that sucked. That said - all my favorite beer and drink spots in the bay appear to have closed, so can't offer many notes here.

When I lived in the Bay Area I always liked Oakland more than SF

I hear there's great skiing in that area. World class, they say.
If the roads are clear, you could take old 40 over Donner Summit for extra scenery, though passing ski resorts for work may cause psychological damage. Breakfast on the deck at Donner Ski Ranch? Funky building, bar's on the second floor facing the parking lot, view to Sugar Bowl. It's about the view not the food.
