Chinese Balloon
I'm giving the Chinese the win on this one. Spook will be proud.
Probably got some good intel for the $5-10K cost of this thing.
We finally got it using a $137MM jet, a $300K missile and misc consumables.

I was wondering why we didn't have a balloon thread.
I think back in the day we had a 10-pager on the balloon-boy from Colorado but maybe that's just because of where that story came from.
In a day and age where countries can read your newspaper from space, I think this was a just a super low risk way for China to poke a stick in our eye. Relatively cheap, plausible deniability for where it went cause, balloon, and a built-in innocuous excuse: "it's for weather!"
I don't know about you guys, but I certainly believe them. The CCP is nothing if not trustworthy.I still call it The Jake.

I like how the shrieking heads on Faux news were claiming it was gathering intelligence on the missile silos in Montana. Do these people know you can actually walk right up and look at them?

Probably saved money on using the missile, now it won't have to go through maintenance cycles.

All I know is that the Chinese have succeeded in filling pages and pages of social media with balloon-themed content today.
Asymmetrical warfare indeed.I still call it The Jake.

The Chinese balloon was the size of three city busses. Or the same size of his mom's ass, take your pick.

I heard it went down in something like 50 foot deep water, so it shouldn't be too difficult to recover. I guess the question is how much survived falling from that altitude.
