after a long winter of iced up guides, bobber staring, and tying 22s and smaller, god looked down upon our humble tailwater that he envisioned, the army corp of engineers impounded, and the fkn ranchers subsidized, and said, "let there be baetis and sculpins."

it all came together today. the meat hit the water and the water blew up with a full breach, again and again. i got to set up drifts just knowing that motherfucker would sip and he did, every time. just one of those days, and it was about damn time. the season is upon us.

First day out this year. Great to be back on the water again. I love this pre
runoff window. stupid, hungry fish and low water is confidence boosting. My local river took quite a beating from fire sludge the past couple years. Things are looking up and I found some nice healthy fish. Snowpack is solid and hoping for a nice drawn out runoff.

As I get older I find myself less interested in spring skiing and more into the early fishing and biking . I appreciate the seasonality of life a lot more.

    Here’s to a good season!

Beauty cutts, but try to keep 'em off the snow unless you are harvesting them.

Well, he's right that you shouldn't do it when its frozen and dry. I wasn't worried about that because it was upper 40s and the snow was wet. I

Day 1 for me. Started off a bit rocky as my buddy was trying to anchor and let the rope slip all the way through the cleat (I don't keep a know at the end.). He was able to find it but wasn't too stoked to have to dunk his waders.

We did get into a nice blue wing hatch and I stuck my first one of the year...on a dry no less.

Gorgeous day to be on the water

Beauty first fish to get on the board with! As you said, dry makes it that much sweeter. Way to set the bar!

One more from yesterday. Gonna break out the long lens more often this year. Will take a little while to figure out how to get good composition as it is a completely different image. But I think they are interesting.
