I knew Schöffi - the Austrian who was killed - a little bit, but not well. Always a really nice guy and a bit of a legend in the Austrian scene, who the last years had started doing a lot to mentor and coach the next generation of Innsbruck skiers.

Just for the record, he always seemed to be truly careful and respectful in terms of backcountry travel and avalanche safety. If any of you saw the Innsbruck Powder People movie posted on the main TGR home page here in autumn, Schöffi was the guy who decided not to ski one of the lines (which the others skied) because it looked too loaded and dangerous to him.
RIP. And good to hear schöffi was a safe rider.
File this horrible tragedy under shit happens.
Schöffi Adam and Kyle all thought they were in a safe zone. But this ripped big.

Sucks. High energy awesome skiers gone too soon. RIP.

Very sorry for those lost, and for those left to grieve.

I know Hop and Gunder have been doing Japan at least 10+yrs on, hope you guys find the solace to make it back again.

I just saw this on the Accuweather site where Grant was quoted (misspelled last name). Shocking loss and I'm sorry for all involved. <iframe https://www.accuweather.com/en/sport...anche/1475955?

The Google translate is very readable for the report. It provides a clear (and hopefully accurate) description of the events and snowpack.

Group 3 are heros, what luck to have them nearby even though 'luck' doesnt sound like a great word to use right now. So sorry to read all this though, Grant and Adam. Another shitty aspect of this is, most likely, getting Kyle back to the states. Some countries have so much red tape I hope it's not a stressful endeavor for his family.

It doesn't matter now, but with such a detailed report I was surprised the slope angles of everything was not listed.

At the time, I had no idea the tears at the end were for Schoffi.
