Boutique Ski Brands
Is it me or has there been an absolute explosion of ski brands in the last 10 years?

It’s cool, for sure. We even have meta boutique brands now, where boutique manufacturers are recreating boutique manufacturer skis with their own twists. Like doing covers.
What a world.focus.

It’s funny that you said “Prior to that”, Prior predates both PM Gear and ON3P

Miller skis, Yost branded skis...80's-90's brands.
Evolution skis - 1989-2006?
Igneous skis - 1996-20??
Are Authier skis considered boutique? We thought so when they sold them here for a few years in the 90's.

That would be Yostmark. They made the Mountain Noodle. Widest ski I'd seen pre Pow+ and Explosiv

Drake-Boinay : https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...Cyrille-Boinay .
The Tabla Rasa was their flagship fattie. At 120 underfoot, I think it was the fattest evar.
This is a good history of DB/DPS skis
http://coldthistle.blogspot.com/2013...ered-skis.html ..
DB blew apart, thenthere was some agreement with Goode who made carbon golf clubs, but that relationship soured and eventually DPS was incorporated.
Going way back, there were Graves in the 70s and Maxels, Lamborghinis, Roys.Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski

Yeah, Yostmark, I think Clair Yost outta Driggs was the man behind those.
Then the Miller Soft.
Even tho they had some production, I always kinda felt the RD products were kinda boutiqueish.
Watching Better off Dead last night and I see that one Lane Meyer was single skiing the kt22 on a Research Dynamics Big Dog or Rad Dog, oss.

This article describes the situation well. It's not just that there are new upstarts, the upstarts are selling more volume then ever the last few years. https://www.skimag.com/gear/emerging...ue-ski-brands/

I think more have died over the last 10 years than been started. Those that survived are taking on more of a significant presence than their predecessors IMO.

How about Skilogik, formerly out of Breck. I’m still skiing some tele mounted Raves I bought in 2012. Love ‘em. Beautiful top sheet graphics as well. Get comments all the time still. Don’t know why they went out of business.

I'm shocked no one's mentioned 333 yet.

I forgot a few of those brands. Very cool.
But there was an explosion of garage ski presses and the interwebs marketing.
And their bastard child was 333 skis.
Today it’s more interesting in that Indy brands usually go to established facilities for experienced and quality controlled product.
Now you just see designs and topsheets and let the big boys build it right.
Look at Marshall. He’s killing it with heritage. But he’s not in the garage huffing fumes and getting dusty.
