Reports today have the Guardos extending All-Star and reigning Gold Glove winning 2B Andres Gimenez who is all of 24 years old with more extensions of the young core to come.

Lock em up Antonetti! Love how this team does business. Again, I think it all started with Josey taking that hometown deal.

Kid looks like he’s the real deal. If so, good for them.

The Lindor trade just keeps paying dividends. I was stoked to see it especially after watching him play in the WBC.

watched the Facing Nolan documentary on the plane this week and holy cow. Nolan Ryan may be the GOAT, but not one Cy Young. Show's awards are bullshit.
    def worth your time.
He defined a lot of my baseball watching life and so Mets they let him go after the Series win...

Yeah, that is right up there in the Mets pantheon of brilliant moves.

I really really like the pitch clock. Love is a bit much.

Yeah. I think it’s great. I’m interested in how the strategies around it will evolve over the next couple of years.

I still hate the shift rule, though.

    all this!
ALso not a fan of the larger bases as there are records at stake and Rick Henderson will say "Ricky Henderson didn't need big bases to be the greatest"

I’m not sure anyone is going to touch Ricky even with the bigger bases. The spreadsheet nerds say it’s not a good idea

Don't like the shift rule nor the bs runner on 2nd.

RE: bigger bases, BB is a game of micro inches, 4 1/2" is a lot.

you sound like a yankee fan talking about mattingly. nolan ryan was a very good pitcher. so good he has the same war as moose in like 2x the innings. pitchers in my life that are no-brainer way better: pedro, roger, maddux and that doesn't get into the guys that are kicking ass right now.

The voting sucks and Ryan is overrated except at beating up Robin Ventura.

Only pitcher you could convince me was better than Nolan Ryan is Bob Gibson

Half your list AND Randy Johnson are in the doc paying homage to Nolan Ryan

This is more an implication of WAR than of Ryan, especially historical WAR

Nolan Ryan allowed a lot of runners on base and a lot of them scored. That's called not being the best baseball pitcher of all time. Post THEN smoke crack.

I'm sure it's a very cute documentary though.

Sure, in your opinion it is an implication of WAR but that is simply one of many tools that shows that Nolan Ryan did not prevent runs from scoring in any meaningful way. Scoring more runs than your opponent is how you win ballgames.

    Career ERA+ of 112
WHIP not good enough for the top 100
    etc

Please see the instructions about when to smoke crack.

Hahaha. I mean I could believe some cherry picked stats, or I could believe what every player who played against him says. He played til what, he was 108 or something? What do those look like if he retired at 35?

If your stats are convincing you that Ryan isn’t one of the best pitchers ever I don’t know what to say. Stats without context are going to input errors into decision making.

I don’t even like Ryan, so it’s doubly annoying have to defend him.

    OFFICIAL 2023 MLB THREAD!!!!

I had the “honor” pleasure” “privilege” “horror” to stand in the box when that old man was at the end of his run and if he wasn’t one of the best to ever do it then I would be terrified to even think about who would be more intimidating. Pretty easy to throw out some stats and other bs but unless you have seen the absolute knee buckling awesomeness that we are discussing then I lend very little credibility to your argument.
