Padres continue to implode. Went to the game last Monday, tons of fun and enjoyed the faster pace. Took my 7 yo, her first game, and she had lots of fun. I only watch the game recaps so first experience with the new rules.

    OFFICIAL 2023 MLB THREAD!!!!

Man Nate Eovaldi is cooking. CG today, his second in May. He’s thriving back in Texas after leaving Boston apparently. Good for him.

those last place (and whiny) jays would be in first in half of the divisions. if they expand again they really need to look at this again, especially in light of the balanced schedule. guess i’d prefer robot umps but why not both?

yeah he’s looked good but they’ve faced a weak schedule too, just like the rays. how many of those are against oakland?

Went to our local hole in the wall here and they were doing free hot dogs. The owner is apparently from Cleveland and brought a bunch of stadium mustard back with him.

Are the dollar dog nights a big thing at other stadiums?

In Toronto we have Loonie Dog nights on Tuesdays I believe, and they've turned into a bit of a spectacle. People are dressing up as wieners, 9-9-9 contests galore, even the local sports media are reporting stats like DPF (dogs per fan lol) etc. Couple weeks ago they had a record breaking night where close to 52,000 hot dogs were consumed in one night.

Kinda insane but a nice distraction I suppose.

The Phillies have dollar dog night that’s been turning into a shit show, too. Saw a bunch being thrown from the top deck in to the lower deck. Which, predictable.

Baseball reference added a playoff predictor, they have the Jays storming back and the Orioles fading down the stretch:

That’s a solid move by that guy. And yeah, that dog looks a lot better than dollar dogs at the Jake. The mustard is on point though.

Thankfully it seems the bats are heating up for the Guardos, and these rookie starting pitchers of Logan Allen, Tanner Bibee and Peyton Battenfield have been doing a hell of a job with Tristan Mackenzie and Aaron Civale on the IL. This organization just grooms starting pitching; it would be nice if they could grow a power hitting outfielder every now and then though.
I still call it The Jake.

Thank God these Guardos bats are finally heating up.

37 hits in this 3 game set against a good Orioles team in their house.

    I’ll take it.

Ok, we’re still finally hitting well. Need some help though, who wants Shane Beiber?

Well Sale left in the fourth with arm tightness so he’s out for the season probably.

I'd love to be wrong but I have a hard time seeing the Jays get so dominant. They've been borderline exceptionally healthy and just not being competitive. We have a single solid pitcher and the rest are flaky and unreliable. (Edit - If Bassitt keeps it up we have two solid pitchers). Not much in the farm system to look forward to either.

Some good defense going on but our hitters for the most part are way underperforming. What happens when the inevitable comes and a key player (or two..) go on the IL?

Prove me wrong Jays but you're basically the healthiest you're going to be and struggling in your division.

It’s the low hanging fruit of sports writing these days and the four letter network is the worst offender.

Power rankings, player tiers, prediction lists, schedule games, etc…

Except that this is just expanded standings that takes into account run differential and schedule remaining and not an article?

are you saying that run differential doesn't mean anything?
