A true legend. I listen to his Spotify feed either going to or from the hill at least 1x/wk. Whether it is his bolero, or freeway jam or anything off of wired or blow by blow, or stuff with Tal. I need to watch his documentary again, soon

This is a sad day for rock-n-roll. I'm bummed.

Sad to hear. He was 78. Not a bad innings, but another decade woulda been cool

*After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday.*

Meningitis has been in the news lately. There was an outbreak in a school around here. I think some kids died. Covid, pneumonia, a crazy flu, and meningitis this winter. Strange times

Goodbye pork pie hat. This may be a perfect piece. Im still in awe

    Aw shit. RIP

That album was a big deal in my high school days, and for some time after.

Edit: this one was huge too.

^^^^^^ Got that. The work with Rod was legendary!

    The best Yardbird IMHO..

    '75: Blow by Blow
    '76: Wired

I was 13, 14, 15 during this run but still remember where I was when first hearing each of these albums

Was able to see him several times over the years and he was always great!
Some of his most incredible work IMO was when he toured with Stanley Clarke in the late 70s.

I’ve got a 13 hour plane ride to Japan in a couple of days…

I’m loading lots of Jeff Beck into my phone. Amazing body of work.

Easily the GOAT in my view. No one else could make a guitar do so much without a bunch of pedals and effects.
It was in his hands. One finger on the whammy bar, one on the tone or volume and the thumb plucking.
Joe Bonamassa tells a story where he was playing at a festival where he and Jeff Beck were both appearing. Having never met him , he arranged to see him a little before Jeff Beck went on. They were both in a waiting room and Jeff was warming up with a little tiny practice amp like many of us have.
No pedals, no mixers, just a Strat. And he was still coaxing all the sounds out of it.
Joe says he left the room with the realization he wasn't anywhere near that.
We saw him several times, once with ZZ Top. Jeff played and then ZZ Top and the Jeff came out and played a few songs with them.

Part way into his first solo Billy Gibbons walked over and bowed down with the "we're not worthy" move.
Check out him playing with Les Paul on YouTube, at one point Jeff launches into one of those licks no one else could play. The rest of the band almost stops in disbelief and Les walks over wagging a finger and snatched the cord out of Jeff's guitar.

Live at Ronnie Scott's and the Les Paul Tribute concert, two stunning displays of a level of mastery no one else has come even close to.
Your results may vary, but sad to see such a great pass.

Like the idiot I often am, I missed his last show, which was just down the hill in Reno…

Found some video of it, though:
