Say TahoeBC - how far were you able to drive up the road toward Esha?

Just to the camp ground with the funny coverings over them. Just beyond that was a big snow bank impossible for vehicles but a short walk over it. I was taking my bike over it and could cut off 2.2 miles of walking round trip to the corral. Maybe in a week it will be passable. Still a snow bridge just pass the corral at the campground over the stream that’s running pretty fast but with these temps who knows how long it will last

Pretty tripping but there’s grass hoppers all over the mountains up there, guessing wind blew them up?

Yesterday I saw one in the snow at 11,000 feet

    A couple of beta pics.
Emerson is still super fat. Hiked up the moraine from bishop park campground then all snow for the rest of the approach.Checkered demon probably won’t last until next weekend unless you are willing to use snow blades.

Baldwin and S aspects in McGee creek
Plenty of company to be had in wineglass but so far the skier traffic seems to have done more to smooth out suncups than add moguls.

I noticed the same a couple weeks ago on Tinemaha. They were up to probably around 11k’ as well. I was similarly quite surprised

Here to leech some info as a non-social media user - any portion of the following would be hugely apprediated:
    - how much dirt walking to hulk?
    - sounded upthread like vbowl was a half mile of dirt walking week ago- anyone been thereabouts or elsewhere off power plant rd more recently?
    - buddy said there's a big plow berm just out of town on Sherwin creek rd. What about coming from 395?

Anyone been out to Red Slate lately? Given the recent transition to warmer condtions, I wondered if that sheltered N aspect is softening by midday.

The lower elevation norths (mini mo) did soften on Saturday around 1030/11. had perfect temps for a good overnight freeze tho.
good trail around the lake and travel looked relatively easy further up the canyon

Pinner still goes with two smallish downclimbs

Ryan Soares just did the Sierra High Route (Shepherd Pass trailhead to Sequoia Wolverton trailhead) in 17:18, beating his own time from a couple of years ago (which beat my own SHR-in-a-day time from 2005).

    Eastern Sierra BC 2022-23

Skied Gutter (much to my surprise and delight) on Saturday. Continuous snow started fairly low on v bowl. The lower more east/south facing part of third pillar chute was already quite soft by the time I got there at 6:45am. The top was very, very firm (front point pen only).

Put in a camp at Sam Mack meadow Saturday afternoon. Kind of awkward/annoying skinning/booting after the ranger hut. Mostly nice dirt before that.

Skied Sill L couloir, north couloir and U-notch Sunday. L couloir very soft for booting by 10:30am but skied perfect. North couloir would have been great if I waited but was still fairly firm (not bad, just not perfect yet) when I dropped at 1:15. U-notch was basically as good as you can hope for when I dropped at 2:30. Some perfect corn, some corn on ice nuggets.

Skied thunderbolt N couloir and something I’m calling the central couloir. Top of N couloir was perfect at 10am (it’s clocked east and gets sun from sunrise), lower bit was still firm (is clocked more north and in the shade until around 9am). Central couloir was really nice at the top when I dropped at just after noon, very frozen in the choke and grippy firm in the bottom.

    What a weekend!!

Heading to the Sierra. Anyone interested in partnering sometime next two weeks? Have experience touring everywhere from Eastside to San Jacinto to Shasta and Lassen to Cottonwood Canyons, and Yellowstone, etc. Avy savvy and carefully thought out.

A friend and I are planning on heading up next weekend (6/10) looking to get after it, ski a couple of cool lines. Definitely both inexperienced as far as Sierras knowledge goes, but have done a bit of touring in the San Gabriels and San Gorgonio

Bluebird today - McGee Creek. Skied Esha 3rd chute at 11:15. Pretty prime, but top 1/3rd could be used maybe another 15min to be perfect. Plenty of lumps down low but skied much better than I expected looking at it on the way up. East aspects @10K were ready at 9AM. Road is dry to the summer TH but there’s a “road closed” sign just past the horse corral for some reason.

Anybody have beta on Mt. Wood east face condition or access?

Skied lookers right shot on E face of wood @915 today. DoesnÂ’t quite go from the summit. Center shot is melted out in the middle. Lookers right goes clean but getting tight in the choke. Mini air required to clear a hole right now. Dozer is blocking road to Parker Bench ~1mi from TH.
