    pics from last weekend.

South lake area. Good corn and a few mag sightings.

    Johnson

    Agassiz is pretty bare

Someday I’ll do a multi day trip through le conte.

Then out of McGee creek. Esha is pretty skied up and choppy but only a 300ft hike to the snow line.

    Baldwin and redslate

Red and white peak looking nice for people willing to make the trek.

Esha. Chunky chutes. Smooth panels on the lookers left.

I think I saw you on Esha? With the BC105s?

It looks like Gilbert in the picture with you skiing.
    Was the lake frozen?

    South Lake is not frozen.

Gilbert is in my pic, but can’t really see the ski line.

    But here ya go!

(Oddly the photo functionality has changed yet again since I posted my last photo. Who knows if this will work.)

    Nice Mike

This was my Sonora season opener, probably the finest conditions I’ve ever had there.

Big fire happening in the Lee Vining area (supposedly started near the Mono Inn north of town). 395 closed through there.

Uh oh re: the inn fire

Some photos from Rock Creek these past few days:

There’s great skiing to be had, but I’d do it as an overnight trip. There’s something like 5 miles of super annoying postholey gloppy approach, the real continuous snow starts somewhere between long and treasure lakes.

The approach is about 5 miles of slog from the pack station to treasure lakes… my friend was not about to bootpack the skin track

Lots of good skiing to be had but even for the lines up at 13000 you have to wake up seriously early

The SF Backcountry skiers Facebook group is pretty good for posting beta pics including recent pics from tioga. https://m.facebook.com/groups/1150152011668361/

Also some good people watching of war stories of city folks epic’ing in the mountains. Though it’s hard to bag on them too much as relative to the rest of the internet everyone is super nice.

Heard from a friend today that there hasn’t been a hard freeze in a while. Saddlebag Lake still has ice snow, and the skeeter hatch and mud festival hasn’t started in the 20 lakes basin.
