Scary Rescue Movie
I always wondered whether those cables they use on rescue helicopters are that safe. This video was taken during a mountain rescue training exercise by Spanish fire crew in the Pyrénées.

As they are winched away the cord gives, they survived their fall of 70 meters... erm with a few broken bones.

How come this video pops up almost on yearly basis (since it happened in late 90's)?

The cable didn't break. The helicopter had some wind issues just as it was starting to lift the climbers and in order to avoid a sudden drop and possible collision with the cliff it released the cable - assuming that the folks at the other end would just drop a foot or two back to the sloping ledge they were sitting on.
In short: oops
And while Ice's photo certainly gives me the heebie-jeebies (and makes me wonder if that guy has any "bat-shark-repellent"), I seem to recall an uber-nerdy discussion on either Fark or SomethingAwful about how that's a photoshopped pic.Last edited by Will; 09-13-2005 at 10:47 AM. My dog did not bite your dog, your dog bit first, and I don't have a dog.
