FWT becomes FIS
FWT has been acquired by FIS. I hope that IFSA will retain it's autonomy in the American circuits. The reputation FIS has in freeride/freestyle events is controversial at best.
In my opinion this isn't a win for the athletes.

Are they going to limit the skis athletes use. Maybe regulate how much rocker is allowed.

When competition goes from "here, hold my beer" to "here, pee in this cup".

I remember when speed skiing went over to FIS. I don't think it was good for the sport. Hence, it went from lots of events all over the place (albeit lots of small tracks, which was great to get people into the sport) to 5 events/tracks in a season. All in Yurp. Plus, FIS didn't do enough to get it as an Olympic event, which was part of it's mandate. It only managed to get it as a demonstration event in '92.
In my eyes speed skiing is the perfect Olympic sport. Exciting, fastest person wins. Period. I hope FIS doesn't fuck this event up too.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Everyone is trying to earn their own buck in life. Just sucks when one dude sells everything he’s built to the wrong crew.
I don’t have any skin in this game. I’m just a fan. But this acquisition had me spit out my coffee.
God, pray this be for the good.

Was not expecting that. I hate to be a naysayer, but hard to see how this turns out well. Hutz's nightmare vision (over in the Freeride World Tour Thread) of a King and Queen of Corbet's type future is a very, very grim prospect.

Jim Jack holds a particular image in my mind of a man who legitimately had the interests of the athletes in mind first and foremost. When the Freeskiing World Tour melded into the Freeride World Tour, I was disappointed. But this seals the deal of what the FWT has been since that merger - a business more than it is about progressing the sport or supporting athletes.
I legitimately hope that this allows IFSA to do the right thing and split their association away from the FWT. I don't have a high hope for it, but at least the FWT has shown its true colors enough. Hell, go look at what the current FWT athlete response is so far.

I’m guessing it’s going to be tough for the current athletes to really speak up. If their sponsorships, paychecks and hookups revolve around the FWT, the best move is probably to say nothing. Have any current athletes posted any statements about it?
The retired athletes might feel less constrained.
I hope I’m wrong but this seems like a huge bummer.

Nothing good can come from this. Reminiscent of Freestyle being absorbed by FIS. It became anything but 'free'.

FIS is the FIFA of wintersports
Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.

You have to wonder how many of the competitors went into freeskiing because of FIS' effect on racing

FIS is loosing ground. They need fresh wind in their offices.
Like the people working in regional offices. Like the (ösv) austrian skiing federation. Specially the tsv tirolean skiing federation. They are still in The eighties or seventies. Young kids dont care about this institutions. The sport is dying. It is not cool.
Think of biathlets and nordic combination youth teams.
So freestyle and freeride keeps them alive. Or extends their death for another 15years.
So it is the FIS needing clicks.
