came back from sutton to find my (and MIL who is out of town) pipes frozen and having an adventure tonight.

surprisingly snowy in montréal compared to the townships, had to do some shoveling and it’s coming down again. very odd season and turning into a decent one if you ever wanted to look at laurentian bumps (not to mention bigger hills on the river).

i think im going to make a pilgrimage to Mont Chilly to ride a real throwback 1 tbar open when they want hill this weekend if anyone is interested in a mini in Pontiac, Quebec.

Speaking of frozen pipes, Sunday River had the Barker lodge closed today due to flooding, presumably a result of plumbing failure. Thank goodness the race was only a combined field of 110, mostly traveling with teams and not parents, or that could have really been an issue.

On the bar front, my point was that all I've got is anecdotal evidence, not actual data; the NSAA and ski area insurance companies have actual data (well, presumably in the first case and definitely in the second). If the claims cost was hugely different without restraining bars, the insurance people would pass that cost on and, at the very least, any chairs that could have bars but didn't get installed that way would be retrofitted to have them. That's decidedly not the case, but I'm also not aware of any new installs without bars.

Decided to check out Black Mountain. NH style. Great vibe with some classic narrow windy trails. Trail count is a bit suspect. Map shows sixty. Old version in the lodge shows like five. Almost everything was open. Snow was deceiving. Looked good but was crusted up and pretty f'n nasty. Still...skiing is fun as shit!!!!!

The place even has a mid-mountain lodge. Tunes were cranking. I guess the Plakes were here not too long ago.

I love the fact my kid is totally into these old-school spots. He's like Rainman with his ski area history.

OK, Encino Man (hasn't posted in years) and I are in. MadPat is invited. Others? Dan Melon?

Anybody have a report on the ADK High Peaks? Headed over this weekend and wondering if any slides are in (Johns Brook area) or ADK Loj, or if you can even ski to them. Thin conditions on this side of the lake...

Not fully opposed to a four-hour drive to shred it but keeping an eye on the wx at the moment.

Potential for a Saddleback Mag mini Feb. 23-26. Yes, it is school vacation week but, No, the lines won’t be as long as anywhere else in New England. I may have a line on some lodging and cheaper tickets. PM me if you have any interest.
